Celebrated our engagement dinner with my future in-law and it was very memorable. The service was exceptional - a casual version of what you will get in a fine dining 5 star restaurant. Very attentive and friendly staff from front of the house to wait staff. Restroom on the 2nd floor could use a little TLC and additional lighting. Food was amazing. The roasted mushroom with pancetta and fried egg was superb. Tagliatelle and Oreciette was a good pasta recommendation from the waiter along with the 32oz porterhouse steak, roasted chicken and side dishes. Seemed a lot of food for 4 and we definitely had leftovers. For dessert the olive oil cake is a must! This place book in advance and strongly recommend making one no later than 30-60 days prior to your visit.

L’artusi is New York’s best Italian restaurant. Note that the reviewers complaining about close-together tables aren’t from New York. Of course the tables are close together - this is the densely populated island in the world..! And expensive? Again, sorry / not sorry - welcome to NYC. Pretentious? Ditto. But also - where do they not ask how you want your fish cooked?! Prey i never land there... Service is informed, warm, and delightful. Food is out of this world, creative and insanely high quality. My ramps, Chiles, Parm spaghetti was truly memorable and eliminated any need for dessert.

For delicious pastas, look no further than L'Artusi. Hidden behind an ordinary door is a lively spacious and busy restaurant bustling with diners till late at night. We were lucky to get a table on a Saturday night. Morgan and others at the front desk were very cordial and helpful.
Initially we did not get a pleasant or patient waiter but upon complaining, we were taken seriously and got excellent service thereafter. The food is well prepared and very flavorful. The portions are slightly on the smaller side but what they lack in quantity, is made up in quality!
I would definitely go back especially for the pastas and the olive oil cake that looked ordinary but tasted divine!

My wife and I went to dinner here. On the plus side, the food was outstanding. We shared the mushroom appetizer which was great. We each got a pasta, me the orichette and my wife the spaghetti they were good sized servings. We then shared the cod.

On the other hand, despite an awesome waiter who was very responsive, the kitchen was overwhelmed. We waited twenty minutes after our appetizer was removed for our pasta dishes and then another fifteen minutes for our entree.

The place was packed and the tables are literally less than a foot apart.

So 5 for the food and waiter; one for the kitchen and noise. Levels.

What a great neighborhood gem for some out of towners. We hate the tourist traps of midtown and love Greenwich Village for some outstanding food. Had no reservations and they sat us at the chef's table--dinner and a show! Started with the beet salad and little gem salad--both some of the best ever had. Came here specifically for the GF pasta, and it was outstanding. Had the GF pasta with bolognese and then the lamb ragu--again, perfecto! Great wine selection--picked out a Ligurian wine we'd never had. Even though we were at the chef's table, the service was thoughtful.

Only suggestion is to have a GF bread service option. Even if it is just a cracker or even some crudite, it is awkward for bread service for one to come out and offer nothing else.
