The shows are fantastic. We saw 3 on our first trip: The Lion King (amazing), The Little Mermaid and Mamma Mia. All 3 were excellent. We only had pre-purchased the Lion King tickets, the rest we bought the day of of TKTS. Cheap deals.

The lights at night are bright colorful and wonderful. Check out the area for the discount tickets for shows - Two for one near the police station, I think it is on 42d and Broadway. It is generally safe but stay focused and aware; lots of interesting places to shop. Locate the public rest rooms area near the visitors center. Most all pizza shops are very good too. Stay in groups of 2 and 4 and have a plan if you get disconnected. I would walk one side to Letterman Show and back down the other at night. See Moma Mia if you can get tickets....show and music off the hook....of course Phatom of the Opera is too. These are two great long running shows. Sit down front it is worth it or near the front.

I feel like almost everything important/worth seeing is located on Broadway or maximum one avenue over. Thinking about it now, I am sure if you made your way uptown walking along Broadway you could get so much sight-seeing done without getting lost! This is definitely a must see on a visit to NYC- from Chinatown to Soho to Lincoln Square- there are so many attractions to see on this main street.
