Description: Kin Shop is a contemporary Thai restaurant opened by Chef Harold Dieterle and Alicia Nosenzo. The duo chose the name, Kin Shop, because “kin,” is the Thai word for “to eat” and the restaurant is the “kin” to their acclaimed restaurant Perilla, a mere seven-minute walk away. Kin Shop’s menu features both contemporary reinterpretations of traditional Thai dishes and wholly new items inspired by Thai ingredients. Complementing Kin Shop’s menu (which is meant to be shared), are Thai-influenced specialty cocktails, a 75-label, spice-friendly international wine list with many bottles priced under $50, and a diverse globe-spanning selection of beers, many from small, craft producers. The casual, but polished setting features comfortable banquettes, a long granite bar, and a chef’s counter for walk-in dining with a front-row view.

My son in law treated me to a lovely dinner at the Kin Shop on 6th Avenue on my llast night in NYC before I headed home. Raw broccoli leaf salads and crispy kale shoots followed by pan roasted Arctic char with kaeng som curry and my absolute favorite, roasted duck breast with red curry, which came with tamarind water and amazing crispy rotis.

A nice glass of crisp white wine was the perfect accompaniment to this very filling meal. Good service was provided the entire evening.

Service by host and server was attentive, prompt and knowledgeable. Tamarind margarita was small but good. Ordered the oyster and pork belly starter and was disappointed the fried oyster got soggy as it was left on the bottom of the plate with the sauce. The duck red curry is not your traditional bowl of curry but a breast served w a curry-type sauce. Overcoming the surprise, it was actually very delicious served w a flaky flatbread. The padthai was a bit disappointing as thai food relies on thin balance between salty, sour, sweet and this dish missed the nuance and was too heavy on the fish sauce and missed the rest of it. The noodles also seemed like pasta noodles and not the luscious, sticky traditional rice noodles - and in my book, if youre going to mess w a classic (like w the duck curry), you better make it better and not just for the sake of being different. With some adjustments on the dishes, i think this place would do even better.

Really very unique, creative and fresh food. No matter the appetizer or main dish we were all amazed and shared everything. It was impossible to decide whose meal was better!

A constant on frequent trips to the city, Kin Shop provides a delicious and comfortable experience that is not often equalled. Unusual and amazing Thai fusion (I guess) food that keeps us returning again and again. Great value, caring service, brilliant food - what's more to ask?

My friends and I had a great meal here on a cold snowy night in August. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and we had a great meal with a bunch of curries that we shared. Overall, a great place and someplace I'll definitely visit again when I'm back in NYC.
