We usually visit Ajisai 4 times each month because of the great quality of the sushi, service and price, but the wasabi needs to be much hotter!! We had to ask for extra wasabi because we couldn't feel anything , even after using all of it with a little soy sauce.
For the most part the food is really great and the ambiance is really good. Very chill and comfortable place to have lunch or dinner.

Good atmosphere and ambience. However, I made a reservation with high expectations for good Japanese fare but was let down. The first item, the Ocean Tartare, was not fresh. The sushi rolls that followed were filling but lacked flavour, and the rice was not of sushi grade.

The chiraishi (sashimi) was fresh but tasteless, and served on a bed of gummy rice. We left 1/4 of the sashimi untouched, a first for us. We had attempted to cancel our sashimi order on account of the tartare, but it was too late.

After paying our bill and exiting the restaurant, the waiter came out to remind us about the tip. All I said was "the food was subpar" and he let it go and left, unwilling to receive any feedback.

We visited for a pre-theatre dinner and found the service to be friendly and quick and the food to be fresh, tasty and presented nicely. It is a short walk to the Times Square theatre district. Nice atmosphere, fresh food, would definitely return! On "Open Table" this was listed as "formal." It is definitely not "formal."

This very small restaurant is a gem. The food choices are interesting, presentation is beautiful, and the tastes -- while not quite as expected -- are delicious. We had four totally different dishes. Each was excellent.

I live around this area so after one day of intense work, I stop here for sushi. You have to order the expensive sushi rolls if you want to eat something decent (range $14-17). And still the flavour is average... I tried the pizza with spicy salmon on top and were a bit too much, in the fried side of the "dough" and too much on top. Strange... if it's for a very low key dinner, it feeds you....
