On the basis of quality, this restaurant is a full 5 star. Service is good and the orders arrive fairly quickly despite it being full all the time. It's pricey but that's what you pay for this quality.
Top notch fish even on Dec 27/28 when fish supply must be harder to get.

We went to Hatsuhana for lunch the week before Christmas. I had asked for a quiet table, if possible. We arrived, and were promptly shown to a charming table in a back alcove; exactly what I had hoped for. The sushi was superb. We added two pieces of Uni to our lunch order, and accompanied it with a carafe of sake. Our server was very nice, and very efficient. The whole experience was very enjoyable. We definitely will be back!

Hatsuhana was a great experience. The restaurant was relatively busy, but our food came out quickly, and the service was very good. The waiters/waitresses take the time to tell you what each piece of sushi is, and explain a little bit about it. I would absolutely eat here again!

Have been coming to Hatsuhana 48th street for many years. Quality has always been good and high.

There used to be a long sushi counter on the ground floor which has now been replaced by seating and tables. Believe the restaurant is facing the winds of change and intense competition and changing spending habits of diners.

Service is still generally good. Had sashimi this lunch visit and didn't find it as good as previous visits. Value for money is definitely on the top of diners and management minds.

The dinner menu offers much more and I look forward to trying it in future.

I had the sashimi deluxe and was very pleased with the selection and quality of the fishes chosen. There was one particular fish that was in a little basket that is just about the best I've tasted. Waiter was very nice and service oriented, but the decor looks dated.
