Description: Nestled in New York City's Upper West Side, Levain headquarters is a cozy neighborhood bakery where locals are greeted by name. A steady stream of loyal regulars stand side by side with tourists, eager to sample the legendary baked goods. From an inventive array of rustic breads to the world-famous six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookie, everything is baked on-site, fresh every day from the finest natural ingredients. What doesn't sell that day goes to help feed the hungry-a mission that has been solidly in place since the beginning. The bakery was founded in 1994 by friends Connie McDonald and Pam Weekes. At the time, Connie was in banking and Pam in Fashion. The two, both competitive swimmers, trained together for the Ironman and-not surprisingly, as their tireless workouts left them feeling starved for great food- they began a passionate dialog about creating the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie. Within just a few years, Levain Bakery had become a neighborhood institution and a destination for epicurious travelers from around the world. Demand continued to grow. In 2000, to satisfy their regular clientele summering in the Hamptons, the two opened a second bakery in the village of Wainscott on Long Island's East End. And today, through their website, they now ship their world-famous cookies to happy fans around the globe.

There is a reason a line forms a this little bakery. It's the cookies. They are fabulous and worth a wait. I always visit while in town and bring a box home for the family. My personal favorites are their wheat rolls with walnuts and raisins. They are so tasty and a steal at $1.00. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Congrats on doing it right!

These cookies are delicious, the dark chocolate ones are my favourite.

There's always a line, but it's fast and it's totally worth it!

Oh my goodness. We were at the location not far from Central Park. This bakery came highly recommended by Dana at Hotel De Point. We got there at exactly 8:00 a.m. when they opened and there was already a line. You'll have to go down a few steps to the bakery and it's small inside, but it's so worth it. You need to check out their cookies. They're huge and so delicious. If you're heading to Central Park; take the walk to Levain's Bakery! You won't regret it.

....because you;ll be sad that you didn't!

These cookies are something to write home about. The line looks INSANE, but it goes fast and it well worth the wait. We got one of each, I love each one. I suggest getting a double chocolate and heating it up at home with ice cream...

but hey, that's just me!

I live and die by pastry so this was a must on my trip to NYC near Central Park and was absolute bliss eating the gooey cookie. I bought 10 just to bring home.
