I've stayed here many times, and if it's the kind of place you want there's really nowhere better in Manhattan. It's a barebones hotel - there's no room service, and you'll be sharing a bathroom with the other bedroom on your floor. Also there's no TV or aircon - I never come to New York in the height of summer, so that's never bothered me.
If you're OK with that, you have quality accommodation in Manhattan for US$99 a night, which is unheard of. The building is a gorgeous historic brownstone, and don't let being on 123rd Street put you off, the 125th Street station (which is very near) is an express stop, so it takes no time to get to and from midtown. Needless to say, Harlem is also well worth exploring.More
