I could visit the observation deck every single time I visit NYC.

The last time I visited, it was to watch the sun set, this time it was during the day.
The city looks amazing no matter what time you visit.

Be sure to wrap up warm as it can get a bit cold at times.

Good to say you saw it. Nothing worth $36. But there's lots to see and do here before and after the viewing: shopping, ice skating, food.

We enjoyed the great views. We bought an advance ticket with a time-slot of 15 minutes when you get in. Ours was from 10:55 to 11:10am on a Saturday. We didn't wait in long lines outside. We got there at 11am, and were ushered right into the building and in the queue for security check. It did take 10 minutes or so to get through the security checkpoint and then another 10 minutes in the queue to an elevator. You are left off on the 67th floor and there are stairs and escalators to all 3 of the viewing decks on the 67th,68th and 69th floors. The viewing decks on the 67th and 68th floors have glass surrounds, but the viewing deck on the 69th floor does not.
Note that you don't need to wait outside ahead of time. Note you can wait in the basement of the building where all the shops are and there is an entrance to the observation deck security line there also for advance purchase time-slot ticket holders. Definitely worth getting the advance purchase time-slot tickets. It took under an hour from the time we got there to experience everything and be done.

It’s all about the view. You have toque up to get there. But it’s worth the trip. One you get outside you’ll want to go all the way up to very top for the best views. I love to take friends here when they visit NYC for the first time because you can see all the famous sites from the top of the rock. Timing is everything, go for the sunset.

We bought the Sun & Stars ticket online which allowed us to visit during the day & again at night.

We arrived at 8.30am on a Sunday morning. There were no queues and went straight through security & after saying no to the photograph that they try & make you do we were straight on to the elevator to the top

It was a crisp cold clear morning & the views were spectacular from the highest level on the outside observation deck. There were only a handful of people & we had uninterrupted views & managed to take some great photographs. We stayed for just under an hour before the cold got the better of us & headed inside for warmth. Again just sitting in the windows allowed for great views in quiet surroundings.

Fast forward 11 hours later when we headed back up for sunset/evening views at 7pm. The place was massively crowded. Annoyingly we still had to queue to go past the photographers even though we had declined earlier in the day. We did not enjoy the experience compared to our morning visit. We managed to get a few snaps then left - again long queues to go back down. Had we not visited earlier in the day I would have been really disappointed with the experience.

Compared to the ESB which we visited the previous night, much preferred the views from the TOTR for the views of Central Park & the fact you get great pictures of the ESB.

Would recommend visiting earlier in the day before the crowds arrive.
