Description: Kellari Taverna is located in the heart of New York City, three blocks from Grand Central Station, Times Square and the Theater District. The dining room decor evokes a subterranean wine cellar designed with contemporary elegance. Kellari features the traditional Greek taverna specialties, such as grilled whole fish, prime chops and meats, and an eclectic selection of contemporary Hellenic savory appetizers ("mezedes") created by our chefs. Our menu also features a variety of Greek cheeses, baked or flamed 'Saganaki' style, as well as a selection of Raw and Marinated seafood. The Kellari dessert menu includes innovative specialties such mastiha pudding and warm sokolata with halva ice cream as as well as traditional favorites such as Baklava and Galaktoboureko. Kellari Taverna offers an extensive international wine list.

Our evening at Kellari was tasty and relaxing, especially after we had to walk out of another restaurant because the noise was too loud. Christopher agreed to fit us in if we got there right away, so we speed-walked to get there in time. We were seated in a cozy corner in back and our server, James, was most gracious and accommodating to our request to make it a relaxed evening and not to rush the courses. Kellari offered a tempting and cost-effective PRE/POST THEATER MENU from which we ordered a Farm Salad and Spanakopita appetizers. They were absolutely delicious and HUGE! Our Grilled Lamb Chops and Fish of the Day mains were cooked precisely to our taste and the Baklava desert was the best we have had outside of Greece. We chose a wonderful, moderately priced wine from a long list. The manager, John Andriotis, graciously stopped by for a chat at the end of the meal. A feeling of warmth and hospitality pervaded the entire experience and we could not recommend it more. We’ll be back!

Lamb ribs did not have much flavor and were too well done. Zucchini chip app was good. Service took a long time.

The zucchini chips with taziki dip was good. The great salad was decent. The chicken wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked. The desserts were OK. Everything was OK nothing really wowed me. I won't be back.

Absolutely fabulous Greek food in a gorgeous setting. Blink and you'll miss it, but the best restaurants in NYC are like that! Whatever you do, don't miss the grilled octopus -- best we've had in the US.

Well worth a visit if you're staying in NY. We wanted something other than steak...and this offered a whle range of veggie and fish options. Would happily go back next time we're in NY.
