Kefi's, a neighborhood eatery, is the place to go when you're going Greek on the Upper West Side. They have a varied menu, featuring many fish dishes. My favorite is their "Simply Grilled" part of the menu, where you can get a host of fresh fish, including Bronzino and Dorado, grilled in simple seasonings.
If there's on disappoinment, it's their salad selections. A traditional Greek salad, served everywhere in Greece, merely consists of cucumber, tomatoe, onion, kalamata olives, and a simple dressing, usually of olive oil and maybe some lemon juice. There's no lettuce to be found anywhere on a traditional Greek salad, so it would be a welcome addition to Kefi's menu.
Their tzatziki, however, is so outstanding, it almost makes up for the lacking salad. Filled with chunks of fresh garlic, it is perfection on a plate. I was recently in Greece, and I'd put Kefi's tzatziki up against any I had there.
There's a nice selection of Greek wines, and their rice pudding is traditional and delicious.
