Kefi's, a neighborhood eatery, is the place to go when you're going Greek on the Upper West Side. They have a varied menu, featuring many fish dishes. My favorite is their "Simply Grilled" part of the menu, where you can get a host of fresh fish, including Bronzino and Dorado, grilled in simple seasonings.
If there's on disappoinment, it's their salad selections. A traditional Greek salad, served everywhere in Greece, merely consists of cucumber, tomatoe, onion, kalamata olives, and a simple dressing, usually of olive oil and maybe some lemon juice. There's no lettuce to be found anywhere on a traditional Greek salad, so it would be a welcome addition to Kefi's menu.
Their tzatziki, however, is so outstanding, it almost makes up for the lacking salad. Filled with chunks of fresh garlic, it is perfection on a plate. I was recently in Greece, and I'd put Kefi's tzatziki up against any I had there.
There's a nice selection of Greek wines, and their rice pudding is traditional and delicious.

A business associate and I went to Kefi's for lunch.
The restaurant was about 25% full and quiet. This was perfect for us since we had a lot to discuss.
The menu was extensive and there were a few specials to choose from.
We both had the branzino with the Kefi's side salad.
The fish was cooked perfectly and it was delicious.
The side salad was full of wonderful vegetables- tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, green beans and olives. There was just enough feta cheese on the salad not to make it overpowering. The dressing was very tasty and did not drench the salad. I love a salad with plenty of vegetables. So many times a restaurant will fill the bowl with iceberg lettuce and call it a salad.
We finished the meal with the walnut cake and walnut ice cream. WOW! This is a must to try!
I will definitely go back.

We stumbled upon this restaurant on Thanksgiving Day through an open tables list. The reviews were great, so we booked a table. We were seated promptly, and the service was quick and top-notch. We ordered the all-four combination dip as an appetizer, and it was very good. For dinner, our party ordered 2 chicken souvlakis, the sheep’s milk dumplings, and the shrimp with orzo. The latter two were tasty, however the former two not. The souvlakis resembled a simple subway sandwich, 2 tiny pieces of chicken on a bed of lettuce on a store bought pita. The potato chips served on the side were soggy, and should not have been served with Greek food in the first place. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate mousse was nothing to write home about. While they advertised the ice cream as “sesame”, it was simply store bought vanilla. For extremely mediocre food, it was VERY overpriced. For 4 people eating 1 appetizer, 1 cocktail, 4 entrees, and 1 dessert, it came out to $112!!! All in all, we were very disappointed with the food, and we would not recommend this restaurant.

With two full floors for diners, one at street level and one floor below, it seemed liked the entire neighborhood dined at Kefi, which made it fun and festive, but predictably the service a bit slower. Food and drink were good, authentic, reasonably priced for New York. Though I was a visitor to the city, if I lived in the neighborhood, I could see Kefi as regular place for a meal. Definitely would come back.

We had a wonderful evening at Keffi. First, the Mastic 75 was the most delicious cocktail I've had in a long time. The pasta with rabbit was amazing, the lamb sausage was spectacular and the branzino was perfect. Service was excellent and never missed a beat with efficient and friendly staff. I highly recommend and can't wait to go back.
