We turned up without a booking on a Friday night about 8.30 having not got into our original restaurant choice. They sat us straight away in front of the sushi bar, so we got to watch the action. Good atmosphere and we had plenty of space. We weren't sure where to start so ordered the signature menu and a sake cocktail each. The cocktail was strong and tasty and they kept us topped up with water throughout the meal.
The tasting menu is a FEAST. I almost wished we had warning of how much food. The staff bring out individual, tiny plates of delicious food, grouped into courses and they bring the plates out fast. There were so many plates that I lost track. We had shrimp tempura, soft shell crab with a phenomenal wasabi dip, lots of fresh sashimi, sushi, scallops, beef so tender it was like butter and incredible black cod with asparagus. You finish with a huge bowl on which is arranged fruit and desserts that include melt-in-the-middle chocolate cake, custard with mango, sorbets and ice cream. Everything was fresh and unique.
It's very pricey - $250 for dinner and cocktails. But for a real treat you get excellent service, an intimate setting with your date and a huge amount of food which tastes incredible.
