Newly refurbished apartment in Washington Heights with new furniture and a nice new kitchen, bathroom and appliances. The apartment is spacious (although being on the ground floor means it's a bit dim). Lots of storage space. Plenty of towels and bedding provided.
The location is perfect for a number of subway lines (including A,C 1), with a subway station just 30 seconds away. There's a Starbucks next door and a great Irish/US restaurant (Coogan's) round the corner. The building itself felt safe, and the building super introduced himself to us on our first day. The neighbourhood felt safe and friendly, and wasn't too touristy.
On the downside, as we were the first people to rent this apartment, quite a few things were missing that you'd usually take for granted (cooking trays, cleaning materials, washing up liquid, dishwasher powder etc). Also, the cold tap in the bathroom didn't work, the bathroom door didn't lock and the window of one bedroom didn't lock (which feels unsafe given that the apartment is on the ground floor and the fire escape is next to the window). Communications with the letting firm were slow at times (so we didn't get the address of the apartment until a few days before travelling, even though we needed these to complete visa forms etc).
So, overall - a good apartment in a very convenient location, but let down a bit by the lack of some of the basics.
