My wife and I debated for hours on where to stay during our first trip to New York City and we settled on the Washington Square Hotel in Greenwich Village. The thought of staying right in Time Square didn't appeal to us as we like to stay clear of tourist traps for our hotels. This hotel had incredibly friendly and helpful staff, notably Rodney who works as a doorman/concierge/need-anything man in the lobby. He let us know where the good restaurants were, transit information and even his best chicken recipe! As for the room itself, the Deluxe King Room (6th floor) was incredibly clean, spacious (even by NYC standards) and very comfortable. Wall-mounted plasma, ipod/iphone alarm dock and charger, king bed, great vanity, robes, safe and all the usual amenities for $225/night. The price for this level quality is apparently unheard of in NYC. We stayed 3 nights. As for the area, there's a drug store right around the corner on 6th Av, the street it's on (Waverly) is incredibly quiet and really quaint. Too many restaurants in the area to list and you're very close walking distance from Washington Square Park, SOHO, East and West Village for shopping and sightseeing. The area is very safe, subways are one block away and cabs to midtown are under 10 bucks. I will absolutely be staying here again and I recommend anybody staying a few nights in the City to use this awesome little place as a home base.

Wonderful hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful (Thank you Ronnie and Nick). From the hotel it's easy to walk up 5th Ave or grab a cab anywhere. The subway is half a block away.
The restaurant and bar/lounge had good food and a relaxing atmosphere. The room was small but clean and neat and the rates reasonable. It was a great find and I will stay there again.

My wife and I stayed at the WSH this past weekend while visiting my daughter who attends Parsons. The hotel is located right on Washington Square, within walking distance of many sites, restaurants, clubs, etc. Subways are also convenient. The rooms, although not large, were clean, and though we were next to the elevator on the 5th floor, the hotel was quiet. An older hotel, but quite nice. Staff was also friendly. We stayed here a year ago, and would not hesitate to come back again.

We have just got back from spending 4 nights at the Washington Square Hotel. It is the second visit after a gap of 9 years and it was a pleasure to return. Rooms have been refurbished but the hotel has not lost its charm and the staff all proved helpful and very friendly.
We dined in their North Square Restaurant twice at night and also for lunch before leaving; the quality and presentation of the food was excellent and the service efficient and friendly.
Having stayed in skyscraper chain hotels coming to the Washington Square is a pleasure. Rooms are well equiped including 'pod' coffee machines however one small room for improvement would be good sized bath sheets in place of towels.
This hotel will however be our first choice when next revisiting NewYork.

Overall a good experience. An ideal location in a quiet neighborhood, close to subway near a fabulous, hip section of Greenwich Village. The air-conditioners aren't the best in the room and make too much noise. The reception staff wasn't the greatest although the doorman and bellboys were terrific. The room was clean, although a little small, bed comfortable, tv too high on the wall.
