This is my third time staying at the Waldorf in the past year and I don't think I'm going back. You hear the word Waldorf and you think classic elegance. The problem is the rooms are dated, it pains me to say this, it is a "has been". Location is great so I hope one day they refurbish but those rooms are not worth $700. Paint chipping nothing regal about it. Sorry!

My husband and I could not have been happier with this hotel. The location was is walking distance of everything we wanted to see; Central Park, the shops on 5th Avenue, and so on. We were upgraded to a suite and the room was huge and beautiful. The lobby and public areas have been perfectly maintained to highlight it's original beauty. I would definitely stay here again. This is the best hotel that we have stayed in at New York City.

This aging bastion of once grand hotel experiences is much past it's prime. The Grand Dame of high end NY hotels has retained the high prices for which she may have once qualified. How ever the aged dowager of the NY luxury hotel scene is long past her prime and in significant need of an up date. The service is adequate, the facilities aged and declining and the pricing reflective of a time long past for this once noble establishment.

The lineage is hear. On the other hand, lineage simply is since it can't be changed retroactively. Certainly the location and the structure are a reminder of the importance of the place. But the Waldorf is like a lady or a gentleman of a certain age - best seen through the lens of nostalgia. Two of us were in town for The Pennsylvania Society dinner, held here as always, and we decided to book here as well for the convenience. We also were curious to see if the new ownership was making its mark. The first thing we discovered is that the Diamond check in lounge is closed on weekends. The fellow who intercepted us said this was recent and no one knew why; he also said that staffing had been cut from two to one when it was open. Hmm. So we checked in at regular reception, which was kind enough to find us rooms, albeit not what we'd reserved. Still, it was far better than the chaos that it ordinary check in, as the desk clerk knowingly confided (true, from past experience). The rooms were modestly sized, comfortably adequate by NY standards, and well-furnished for any decade from the 30s through the 60s. They could use a facelift. The HVAC is, well, quaint, but the windows open to let in cool air. Those prone to hypothermia, however, will be very comfortable. We had lunch in Peacock Alley, which was nice enough, although not up to The Caledonian in Edinburgh, but as we'd been given coupons upon check in that covered a glass of wine each. I still give it four stars because 1) it is an institution and 2) it could be great again. I hope it becomes great again, but we'll see.

This hotel is a grand old lady. The public areas are beautiful. Elegant and impressive. The bedrooms are a little worn but really comfortable and well equipped. I would definitely stay here again. The service is flawless and professional.
