We stayed in the Hotel Metro for a week over Christmas. We had stayed a number of times in another hotel 3 blocks away and we loved the area. The Hotel Metro suited our budget this time so we decided to change.

The location is perfect with a subway station with lots of lines running through it at the end of the street and a number of other subway stations quite near. It's right beside all the shops along 34th St and Herald Square and there is a shop selling bottles of water and magazines just beside it too which was great for bringing snacks up to the room.

No one was there to bring our bags up the steps at the door which we were a little surprised by. There was no queue for check in and we were soon in the room. The room was fairly small but this wasn't surprising as it's New York and we had seen pics on Tripadvisor. It was clean and had everything we needed. The shower was strong and the aircon worked well.

A few things went wrong in the room during our stay but they weren't a big deal. Telephone handset wouldn't charge so you had to use it on speaker. TV reception was bad one of the days. Light broke in the bathroom. We had to call someone up for each of these. Also we never got enough towels. We did leave notes and ask at reception a few times but they always forgot again the next day.

We enjoyed the free breakfast. It was great that you could just grab a juice and muffin on your way out in the morning.

I made a few local calls in the room which I thought would be free but I was charge $1 for each one as a 'placing fee' which I thought was a little cheeky. Never paid for these anywhere else.

The maids cleaned the room beautifully each day and were always very smiley in the corridor. One of the nights the fire alarm went off. It turns out someone had pressed the alarm in a corridor which is something the hotel couldn't plan for. Luckily it was resolved quickly.

We used the concierge once, he was extremely friendly and helpful. Great service.

Some people have mentioned the noise in their reviews. We were in 917 which faced onto the street but was at the back of the building so not directly. There was some general city noise but absolutely nothing which stopped us from sleeping. I mainly didn't notice it at all. I live in the suburb of a city for reference.

Overall, we would definitely stay in this hotel again if we were looking again for something in this price range. We enjoyed our time here.

We've just returned from a 5 night stay at hotel metro and I can't find fault with anything. Extremely clean, daily beddings and towel changes and great breakfast to get your day started. Our muffin and bagel experiences will never be the same now that we've tried hotel metro's everyday! It's prime location means you can walk to most main attractions and the choice of eateries at your doorstep 24 hours when you need to eat is overwhelming. We enjoyed working out in the gym and the fresh air at the roof terrace is a definite bonus, wish we were there in the summer to maximise this roof terrace. Considering we stayed there at peak time, from Christmas eve, the cost was friendly to our tight budget. Excellent excellent value for money!

This was the second time we've stayed here and it was even better than before. We stayed 11th to 16th December for my fiftieth birthday. Staff were very friendly, thanks to Matthew (Bellhop) for all your help, breakfast awesome, and location, location, location fantastic!! Room and ensuite excellent, bed made everyday, our maid was spanish speaking, danced as she worked and was very friendly. Loads to do in surrounding area, eating, drinking, shopping etc!! Macy's and ESB just a short stroll. Blue bus three day pass great value to see all the sights and we did a Viator dinner cruise....wow!! Times Square just a short walk away!! Saw Sister Act on Broadway, it was fantastic!!!

Room Tip: Stayed in the front of hotel so a bit noisy but it's the city that never sleeps so expected it!! Didn't spoil anything!!

We stayed at the Metro for 6 days in December for my daughters 21st birthday.
Hotel rooms were very clean and comfortable, the bed was very comfy, flat screen tv, fridge, air con coffee maker etc. Tasteful decor.
Bathroom was very small but shower was large and powerful.
Complimentary breakfast was great, just enough choice and plenty of everything. Tea and coffee available all day and night in lounge was a real bonus.
Managers cheese and wine on Tuesday evenings is a very nice touch, loads to eat and drink if you want it and a chance to chat to managers.
Location was brilliant. Round corner from Empire State Building, and what a sensational view from the roof terrace, and about 50 yards from Macy's front door and all the shopping around it. Felt very safe and friendly area.
Very short walk to Times Square and can walk to central park if you're in the mood for the walk.
Would recommend this hotel, not the cheapest or the largest but good value when you consider breakfast is included and excellent location for most of tourist areas.
