This is a beautiful area! We spent a whole day here, driving and hiking. Bring snacks and water as the Visitors Center doesn’t have much. The hikes range from short and easy to all day affairs. Just depends on what you want.

If you are visiting soon I recommend entering through the west entrance. They are rebuilding the road so you cannot drive from one end of the park to the other. Don’t let that keep you away though! The closure is near the east entrance so if you enter there, you won’t get far.

Drove over from Carbondale for an afternoon visit and wish we’d planned a full day. The vistas from the roadway are truly spectacular!! And there are numerous hiking trails for all abilities. This place feels like a mini Grand Canyon, but you feel more connected to it as you meander the road and trails. Don’t miss it!

A highlight of this park is the long scenic drive, aptly named because it is on the edge of a cliff. Unfortunately, after about 25 minutes, you have to turn around and go back to Fruita instead of continuing onward to Grand Junction -- that's because of construction.

A highlight for us was the nature trail, across the street from the visitor center. It's a very easy 20 minute hike. Ask for a guide in the visitor center, so that you learn the names of plants and so forth.

Thanks for the great review.

For folks reading this review, the small portion of Rim Rock Drive that is currently closed for road construction, is scheduled to re-open April 23, 2018. As reviewer John G. said the visitor center and 18 miles of the road are open. Check the monument's website for updates. www.nps.gov/colm

Absolutely beautiful scenery! My husband is afraid of heights, so the driving was a bit harry for him but even he agreed that the drive was worth his discomfort. Currently the road is being fixed so you can't drive the entire 23 miles. We drove in from the West end and the sites were amazing. There are a number of pull offs as well as trail heads off the road.

Exhilarating winding road, beautiful views, Mother Nature wins with the canyons, trails and vistas. Visitors Center is a must stop - informative and educational!
