Our hotel manager told us that if we wanted the best breakfast around to go here. How right they were!
We visited New Year's Eve day and were told that this place is under new ownership and will be closing down for a few weeks to revamp. However, the food should stay pretty close to the same. I hope so!
It's a tiny place that is more bar than restaurant. We'll have to what new changes are in store. The service was good - couldn't fault it. I had Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. Turned out to be the best version I've had in years. Steak was tender and full of flavor as was the gravy. Didn't taste like your typical made-from-a-packet gravy. I grew up on Southern Cooking and the gravy tasted authentic. Something hard to find these days.
We had pancakes at our table and I believe they were the best I've ever had. Ever! Amazing pancakes! The toast and eggs were all on par. The hash browns were excellent. We were all extremely satisfied with our orders. The bill was merely $40 for a table of five. An amazing deal!
I'd be back in a heartbeat! Next time we visit Astoria the Labor Temple Cafe is a must!
