I spent a weekend at this fabulous Inn with my husband recently, we were on holiday in Florida & drove to Savannah because we had been told how great this place was, so we took the opportunity to witness it for ourselves.
There were many hotels to choose from but the Ballastone Inn just stood out to us & my oh my did we make the right choice.

On arrival at the Inn we were met by Hannah who showed us where to park the car and also to our room, she explained & showed us how their breakfast system worked, it gave choices of times & breakfasts.

All of the staff went out of their way to make us feel very welcome, Derek, the senior concierge was so helpful and friendly, both he and Tia answered our many questions.
The kitchen staff were also welcoming, we stayed in the Hannah suite which is opposite the kitchen, this did not hamper our stay in any way, the smells of their amazing breakfasts wafted in the air and every morning, we could not wait to make our way to the dining room to sample the delicious breakfasts that they cooked.

The turn down service every night together with the chocolate treat was a nice touch, one of many little treats which are available to make ones stay very pleasant. The bed was so comfortable and the quality soft sheets were the best I have ever experienced in a B& B Inn.

The Inn is situated in the most perfect place, ideal for site seeing and no matter what time we arrived back to the Inn during the day or evening, there was always a warm welcome.

If I am ever lucky enough to travel to Savannah again in the future, I would love, love, love to stay at the Ballastone Inn, the atmosphere, quirkiness, the staff, everything about this place just made my stay extremely enjoyable.

The staff worked very hard to ensure our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as was humanly possible, nothing was too much trouble, they make a great team and I thank you for making my stay extremely enjoyable.

The Ballastone Inn comes highly recommended, you won’t be disappointed if you are lucky enough to stay here, it knocks spots off the run of the mill hotels and B&Bs, you will love it, just like I did.

We had a wonderful 10 year anniversary celebration at the Ballastone Inn! It was beautiful and comfortable! The staff is amazing! Property is centrally located in the historic district, so you can walk everywhere! Parking is not free, but we had no problem finding street parking in front of the building. That might not always be the case though.

Room Tip: I would get an upper floor, because it is essentially an old house, with wood floors, you can hear the people walking above you. Even though most guests are very considerate!

So happy that we could share in your anniversary celebration! You are right, we are located in the heart of the historic district so practically every shop, restaurant and museum are all just a short walk from Ballastone. Parking can be a hassle every now and then, but luckily, Oglethorpe Avenue has so many parking options that guests usually find a spot close to us. We hope you will come back and stay with us soon!

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. We were in the Savannah Room, which is on the ground floor with a view of the gardens. We liked that the bed setup could either be a king bed or two twins, twin beds were perfect for us to share the room. The room itself was spacious and the view was very nice. We found the room to be a little chilly, with no way to adjust the temperature, but there were extra blankets in the closet, so we were ok. All of the garden level rooms are on the ground level, which is under the main level of the house. The kitchen and laundry areas are located on this same ground floor, which might be off-putting to those who want to get lost in the history and grandeur of the main and upper levels of the house, but we found it to be ideal, as it's a bit more secluded and quiet, making it a serene choice. We stay in quite a few B&Bs and boutique inns when we travel and thought that this one had a few nice extras we weren't accustomed to - namely the afternoon tea and the social hour (with port, sherry and snacks included). The breakfast each morning was excellent - very fresh and filling and with good choices. We liked that you could select your breakfast time and options the night before and it was all ready and waiting the next morning when you came up. Who wouldn't love your own personal pot of hot chocolate every morning as you gaze out the picture windows onto the garden below? The staff members we interacted with were very friendly - we especially liked Derek, who had infinite patience, enthusiasm and a never-ending list of restaurants to try. One thing to note: parking could be an issue on a busy weekend - when we arrived on a Tuesday, it was no big deal - but as it got closer to the weekend and the inn filled up, we did have to park down the street overnight. The staff was helpful in explaining the situation and it was only a minor inconvenience - all other days we had a spot in the tiny parking lot behind the building. Overall, we had a fantastic stay - central to everything we wanted to see and do, very walkable and with cafes and coffee shops all around. We would certainly consider a return visit to Ballastone Inn when we come back to Savannah in the future!

So glad you enjoyed your stay! Correct we have had some crazy weather for sure, we turned off the fireplaces only to have 45 degree dip so it made everyone a bit chilly. Many of the windows in the house are very very old, and we try and keep them that way as long as we can.

Parking in Savannah has become a problem spots filling up fast with tourists with guests parking either on the street with a $24.00 two day pass, or in very close by parking garage. However it is much better than the average $25-30 a day that the large hotels charge. So many tourists coming to our city we just have to learn that parking will be at a premium for sure.

Thank you so much for all of your kind remarks,

jennifer

cannot say enough about our stay at the Ballastone this past weekend! The Inn is gorgeous, in a perfect central location. All of the staff made us feel welcome every minute we were there. Breakfast was superb and different every day. High Tea at 4:00 with wonderful mini sandwiches, and desserts. Evening sherry and port, along with appetizers. Beautiful living room and parlor to sit and visit with our friends. The courtyard is a perfect place to sit and read and rest a bit after a busy day of site-seeing.

We booked at the last minute as we were passing thru on the way to Florida . So happy we chose this Inn!
Such southern hospitality. Starting with the young gentleman that booked us over the phone and then welcomed us when we arrived a couple hours after . He was so helpful and made us feel at home right away . We were tired and hungry after a long drive so he pointed us to the perfect sandwich and salad shop. Later we enjoyed a nice glass of wine at the bar and had a lovely conversation with Tia. I believe she is training for the front desk . She and the other girl that was working there couldn’t have been nicer! The manager and server at breakfast were amazingly accommodating too . We came down quite a bit earlier than we had signed up for. Yet they took right care of us .
The best part of our stay was sinking into the most comfortable bed sheets and pillows ever . Great place . Perfect location . Will return :)
