About the Property : -
This is a 140 year old bungalow first build/owned by British and is currently owned by Tata, It has been now converted in to Hotel, It has 3 rooms - 2 facing hill side & one back side, it also comes with a dinning room and TV room. They have 3 people for service here - a Cook, a room service guy and a gardener. All the rooms are very spacious and have antic look and feel to it. But I must say that as per standards none rooms were up to the mark - rooms were not clean, it seems bedding was also not changed recently. We faced electricity problem and had to spend most of the night without electricity as their generator was also not working.
May be they could be more professional and provide accommodation up to the standards.

Location:-
Nothing can beat the location of this place - excellent views of mountains, tea gardens and dam. you just feel like gazing at these views all the time. It is quite high from sea level so you get clean and fresh air always. In the night it gets very cold.

Food:-
We had very limited options in food section - as cook has to prepare it for the max 3 families. No question on quality of the food but they can improve on it.

Service:-
Service was very prompt and friendly.

If I had to recommend this place to anyone then I will do it only for the LOCATION and VIEWS.

We have given this an average rating because "poor" seems a little harsh in light of the fantastic setting and friendly staff. However, the accommodation fell below our expectations and was disappointing compared to the rest of the places we stayed. Not recommended for families requiring an extra bed as this was a rather dirty mattress on the floor that I didn't want my daughter to sleep in. Difficult to assess in terms of overall rating because we paid for it as part of a tour - if it is cheap then an average rating is fair; if not then a poor rating is justified.

We stayed in the 'Manager's bungalow', a colonial era building that was about 150 years old. The setting was fantastic, right in the middle of the tea plantation, with a large lawn and well kept gardens. The accommodation itself could be described as 'rustic' being at the lower end of comfort and facilities. Certainly the interior photographs on the website beared little resemblance to the room we had. The room was large and clean (although not spotless), but was very basically furnished and felt run down. The bathroom was poor, with the shower being not much more than a trickle.

Staff were very accommodating, although spoke very little english, and were very keen to provide food that suited us.

There was a communal lounge and dining room which we has to ourselves during the duration of our 3 day stay, although again both were pretty sparse in terms of furnshings and comfort.

Overall the location, views and grounds lived up to expectations, the accommodation and furnishings fell a long way short.

Tea meadows seemed to have everything going for it in a house overlooking tea plantations and forest. However, the interior was so disappointing. The rooms were dirty (stained walls and rugs). And the wiring over the bed was sticking out and looked very dangerous. The bathrooms were filthy (we were given a choice) and the baths were stained brown. We refused to check in to the hotel and were offered a place 17kms from Munnar along an unpaved road. This place (Silent Valley) was cleaner and as it was very late decided to stay. The place was very cold and they chaged 300rps to light a fire in the lounge (which was six sticks that burnt out in an hour). We were the only guests (not surprisingly). And finally as we were leaving saw signs of bed bugs!!!! Never again. We booked through Trailfinders who used Trans India Holidays. We will not use these companies again.

Munnar should definitely be on your list to visit. It is just gorgeous.

The Tea Meadows - need not be.

The website sells it as a high end private house but in reality it was most like a home stay. The staff was confused and the owner stayed in the second bedroom.

The food was quite good - but there wasn't any hot water and we had to ask for a sheet on the bed and towels in the bathroom.
