“Just OK, Better than the rest”
Reviewed 25 September 2011

Coming from Kovalam's relaxing beach resort, Kanyakumari hotel scene was quite a shock. Problem 1: Many hotels refused to accommodate a solo female (strange & partial to women)
Problem 2: Most of the places were plainly repulsive and rest were way too expensive for a budget traveler. So finally after searching for an hour and realizing that there aren't many choices, I contented with Hotel Manickam as a middle path policy.
There is nothing special about this place except that it's still better than the rest and livable for a night or so. Rooms are spacious, bathroom is big & few rooms offer decent balcony view. It's close to main beach, so ferry, Kanyakumari temple & sunset point are all at a walking distance. I wont advise eating here as food is not good. Don't expect any help or advise from staff. They might try to misguide you for more expensive taxi etc. when cheaper options are available outside. Also, construction work was going on in Aug 2011. I will hope for better options next time and will try to avoid this place.

Room Tip: You can pay more and get a balcony view but i doubt it will be worth the money spent.

This is one of those places that isn't great, but isn't bad either.

It's probably mildly overpriced but not by anything worth writing home about. Rooms are clean, location is ok and staff are fine.

You probably won't complain about your stay here and you probably won't remember it for long either.

We're budget travellers so to us, 900rs seemed like a lot, but this was one of the best hotels we stayed in in India. We got the best room in the corner with a sea view (good for sunrise), a massive bathroom and a very soft comfy bed.

All in all, we had no complaints apart from the slightly corporate feel and tip-hungry staff.

We stayed two nights. This is a very good place. It's more expensive than other budget places we've stayed in, but the quality backs up the price. The room was large, clean and modern, (almost semi suite - fresh cross breezes - air con not necessary) with a balcony overlooking the fishing village and Bay of Bengal. Staff were friendly, professional and helpful. Just below the ramp to the main road at South Car Street there's an excellent night time fried fish stall, second from the left - cheap and best.
