We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour and were very disappointed after staying at lovely hotels previously on the tour. Yes, it looks good from the outside with the colonial frontage and the lovely gardens, but it was SO dark and depressing and the rooms were cold, very basic and inadequate. The shower overflowed all over the bathroom because they have not been built in correctly, we were give twin beds pushed together that were hardly bigger than cots and uncomfortable and the rooms were very cold with inadequate bedding. Old towels, worn carpets and lack of good lighting everywhere did nothing to make us feel any less depressed about the place.
The dining room which had no natural light was extremely dark and the bar/sitting room had grafitti over the walls which was encouraged by the staff looking for visitors comments by providing them with felt tip to write with! What a shame that this hotel which could be so lovely has been allowed to deteriorate to this level! The staff are friendly and willing and the food is absolutely gorgeous with professional waiters and chefs who would grace any London hotel. If this is the management company's idea of excellent English accommodation, I feel ashamed.More
