The photo posted by the hotel is a very accurate view of the room. Our room was clean and attractive. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Be sure to ask for towels - they don't keep them in the rooms for some reason. You also have to ask for the WiFi information.

Don't let the exterior of the building fool you. The outside looks dumpy and awful. When we first saw it, I was afraid we'd have to look for another place to stay. But then we saw our room and everything was fine. A local told us it had been flooded during Katrina and the interior was gutted and re-done. But I wouldn't walk by myself in the neighborhood at night.

The bus stop to get downtown is just at the next corner, and since there were 2 of us, we had no problems, even at night. The bus comes every half hour and is very convenient. Get an all-day pass and you can transfer to other buses and even the street cars.

But don't be fooled by the lone photo on this site. The Rose Inn has nothing that even remotely looks like a view of a nice hotel or a fountain, unless you count the trees that are growing out of the pool. It's clean, the bed is comfortable, the mini fridge, lights, air conditioner and television all work. That's more than I expected for $50.00. If you want to see what the motel really looks like on the outside, just enter:

3522 Tulane Ave
New Orleans, LA 70119

and do a google map search. If you know you're staying there and not where the misleading picture would have you to believe, you'll be much more impressed with the room. Oh yeah, my room had a fist-shaped hole in the bathroom door and a missing phone. I'll just chalk both up to an angry resident. I can't vouch for any other rooms that may or may not have phones.

2.5 months into a 3 month trip = accomodation on a budget.
We choose Rose Inn Motel on price alone & we were rushing to make the mardi gras parade.
We were concerned when we noticed the pile of pornographic videos in the reception area.
Rooms are large, king bed didn't have a blanket - only a coverlet & threadbare sheets. Fridge & microwave in room. There was long hair from previous inhabitant on the floor of the bathroom & in the shower.
Noise from road can be heard but it is not overpowering.
Expect absolute no frills.
