Recommended to this restaurant by our air B and B hosts and it did not disappoint.

A little tricky to find since there is no signage outside - interesting! However, well worth the effort. Service by Sandra was spot on. Informative and engaging. Not rushed at all.

Food and wine all of a very good standard. The red snapper was particularly good, especially the crispy black rice it came with. Creme brûlée was perfect.

Not cheap mind you.

Only small criticism is that it’s very noisy - but that is not the fault of the chef or the establishment, simply a reflection of the clientele.

I still enjoy Gautreau’s when I go to New Orleans 2 or 3 times a year but regretfully the departure of Sue Zemanick some time back is reflected negatively in the menu. Last week I had a very well prepared trippletail fish. Unfortunately it was paired with a gook, which the menu described as sweetbreads but which sweetbreads were barely detectable in the rest of the gook. I love sweetbreads but the mixture overwhelmed them. I’m sure the chef thought he was being clever but he only messed up a good fish.

This is hands down the best restaurant in the city of New Orleans. It’s a hidden gem of our area. We go for all our special occasions or just to grab a few apps the duck confit is the best I have ever had. Sometimes order 2. Banana split is out of this world. Must try!!!!

I was so impressed with the service at Gautreau's. Every server touched our table and it was seamless. Drinks were delivered in less than a minute, just the right amount of attention without hovering. In addition to the service, the food was great. Unique dishes that tasted fantastic.

Gautreau's is hidden on a quiet residential street in uptown New Orleans; there is no sign outside. But it is well known to locals and usually fills up every night it is open. It is named for a famous lady from upstate who immigrated to Paris after the Civil War and was the subject of the scandalous portrait by Whistler that now hangs in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Inside, the decor is subdued and peaceful. The food--ah, the food--is superb. I had an amazing duck confit, followed by seared tuna which was just the right degree of rareness. My wife started with a beet salad, followed by a truly good grilled red snapper. We finished with house made ice cream, which set just the right tone for the end of the meal. Service was excellent throughout.
