We visited this church and town as part of a day trip from Dubrovnik to Bosnia and Herzegovina. There was a supposed sighting of the Blessed Virgin Mary on two occasions by groups of children. There was a mass taking place while we were there. The grounds are structured to allow large numbers for outdoor mass and confessional. The town has made a business area across the street with tacky souvenirs but other than that,it was a pleasant experience for about an hour as a stop over

We first visited this very spiritual place in 1999 . We made our 10th visit in june , have things changed a little ? We just noticed the following:
Restaurants , waiters charging for items not ordered , wrong change being given etc.
Where we stayed , money missing from our apartment.
Id hate to think medjourje is going down that road , as we still feel it is a fantastic place , with lovely people and prayer comes so easy over there, its on returning home you realise the graces that flow from it, hope we wer,nt too negative , but its an honest review.

We were lucky to be able to attend a mid morning mass in the church. I really felt closer to our Creator when we were there. It is very simple including the altar. A far cry from the Vatican. I didn't notice any elaborate, stained glass that I am used to seeing all over Europe. Or maybe I just missed it. It definitely renewed my faith. I don't mind going back and spending more time and doing a pilgrimage in the future. For Catholics and non-Catholic, a must visit.

Many make a pilgrimage here to pray. Large cathedral worth a look. Large open air alter accommodates a huge crowd and there are apparently large youth gatherings at certain times. Known for its sightings of the Virgin Mary by a group of young boys and the town has grown up around this.

We had a quick one hour stop off here in a day trip. Very busy spot. Queues for the Risen Christ Statue, so factor that in if you are pushed for time. Church is lovely with a beautiful statue of Our Lady off to one side of the main alter. There is an area to light candles at the side of the church also, again, there can be queues so factor in time.
Across the street, a treasure trove of little souvenir shops which stock holy items, souvenirs etc. Euro accepted so conversion is not necessary. Lovely place, just sorry we didn't get more time here. One hour definitely not long enough.
