Arrived 19th May and had 2 fabulous weeks. The staff are superb, the hotel is clean and the food is excellent with so much to choose and free drinks with the evening meal. Excellent wellness clinic with spa, pool and massages. The beach facilities are also excellent and the walk along the coastal path into Novigrad is very nice. Great for tennis fans with clay courts and coaching. Also great facilities for cyclists.

Room Tip: We were in B block with a sea view room on the top floor, only 3 floors high. Excellent views of Nov...

It was a really great hotel, modern, clean, designed with nice, helpful staff, so we had a fantastic time there. I throw the restaurant into relief, by breakfast and also by dinner the assortment was rich, better-and-better food were on the buffet. The bests till now. There are plenty of parking places, the center of Novigrad is a 10 minute walk. The beach is also beautiful. We really enjoyed the stay there.

Arrived 23rd May for a 10 day holiday.
The Hotel is very modern in design and the rooms are well equipped ,with tea and coffee making equipment, a small fridge, with mini bar.hair dryer in the bathroom, and the free use of a digital safe.We paid a supplement for a double room with balcony, and sea view, well worth it.
The location is excellent with its own private beach, and just a 10to 15 minute walk to the town od Novigrad..
The hotel has numerous tennis courts ,a well equipped gym,and a large indoor pool.
Food was satisfactory, although not much variety, drinks were included with the evening dinner, which is a definite plus .

Room Tip: Go for a room with sea view

Had a great stay. May time I think is the better time as no hoards of people but enough for a lovely atmosphere. Staff couldn't do enough for you. Location was great, right on the beach. A lovely walk to the town centre along the sea front. Food was really nice too. They even do you a packed brekkie if you go on a day trip.

Room Tip: Opt for a balcony room as they have sea views

My wife and I stayed at the Maestral for the period 5 th -12 th May . What is it that makes us come back to Croatia every year ? The weather -the scenery-the people !
We have now covered from Medulin in the south, north to Novigrad and we love Istria . It is an unspoilt and friendly country and so clean .
What of our stay in the Maestral ? I emailed reservations with our request for " b" side rooms but on arrival was given a suite overlooking the pool ( kind gesture ) . The rooms are extremely clean and fixtures are modern but the balcony is so small that really only one person can use it ( all balconies appear to be the same ! ) They are so designed that the sea view is very limited indeed .
The hotel grounds are huge and immaculate and the sport facilities are very good --this means the hotel appears to be used mainly by sports people who totally ignore the hotel's dress code request and dress as though they have just come from the tennis court ! -hardly the image of a 4 Star hotel ! During our stay there did not appear to be many English people and clearly the hotel mainly caters for the Germans and Austrians -this is reflected in the food availability/choice .
Food ---a good selection for breakfast --dinner was a rather " hit and miss affair " --meat choice was rather limited and quality often poor --my main " grumble " was the fact that the hot food was often cold by the time one returned to one's seat ! Desserts --could have been better --limited choice . One nice " touch " was the fact that wine / beer /soft drinks were free !--rarely does one get this offer nowadays .
The hotel staff were excellent --friendly , and very keen to make one's stay enjoyable . Reception -very efficient ! The hotel's Restaurant Manager was also excellent and could not do enough to sort out any problems .
The pool is rather on the small size for the hotel and there did not appear to be many parasols available . Again the pool area is immaculately well looked after with cleaning staff washing the whole area at 6.00 am every morning ! One expects to pay over the odds for drinks etc. in the hotel but surprisingly the drinks are only 25% more than in the town of Novigrad What of hotel entertainment in the evening ? One evening we had a 2nd rate singing duo and that was it !! The hotel needs to look at this ! 4 star hotels always provide entertainment for guests !
Novigrad--a lovely small fishing village/town with a good selection of small restuarants and coffee shops overlooking the " working " harbour /marina . There are one or two small supermarkets and a few small ,individual shops . The whole area is so clean ! A " train " service exists between the hotels and the town -every 20 mins --10 kuna ( £1 ) each way . The walk from the hotel to the town takes about 20 mins and follows the contours of the beach with plenty of seats .
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday ( a week is long enough for us ) The hotel does need to ask itself if it is a sports club OR a 4 star hotel --it needs to sort out its dress code and also the problem of towels being left unattended on pool seats ( Hotel rules state that unattended towels will be REMOVED but again they do NOT enforce it !! ) The food problem needs also to be looked at ---the hotel was not full by any means and this probably was reflected in the choice/quality etc . When we booked with Thomsons in late December the website indicated there were only 2 rooms remaining !!! this clearly was NOT the case and this policy must stop -
In spite of the few negative comments ,we enjoyed the stay and will visit Istria again
