“Only OK unfortunately”
Reviewed 6 November 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We were really looking forward to our stay and from the outside the place is gorgeous. The poorhouse and outdoor fire, just fabulous. The grounds were beautiful. Inside however the place is really dark and so very cluttered. I felt that I couldn't relax due to the extreme clutter. I would have loved to hire a skip and do a big clear out! Even the oven was full of serving dishes that didn't fit in the cupboards so there was limited (no) space for our own provisions and the clutter consisted of adhoc "stuff" that you didn't need or want sitting around. The bathroom shower was so bad that I preferred a cold shower outside until the weather turned rainy. I don't go away and pay this sort of money take cold showers! The artwork is not appropriate for a holiday villa. I can appreciate the artist and their personal taste but it's really not suitable when trying to create a calming atmosphere for a break away.
When the weather turned a bit grim (for the last 4 days of our one week stay) we had to resign ourselves to cooking inside rather than using the BBQ and eating inside. The sheer clutter just meant I couldn't enjoy my cooking. When the weather was nice we brought the little outside table to the pool house and ate breakast and dinner there (in the evening lighting the outdoor fire) and the setting was absolutely beautiful. There are good things about this place (being the grounds and exterior) but that's where it ends. I wouldn't recommend it nor would I go again which is so very unfortunate. Lorenzo was a sweetheart and Solidea the owner was prompt with queries. And they couriered me back forgotten items from a drawer which was really great of them without charging. I appreciated that a lot!

“Not at all as expected, we wouldn't rebook.”
Reviewed 9 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We stayed at Casa Rosina for two weeks and sadly it didn't live up to its promise.

- The converted barn is pretty from the outside, but is incredibly dark inside, even with the lights on it feels quite gloomy. Cooking in the evening was almost impossible the light is so poor, and it was poor in the day also.
- The villa listing states that there is TV with many channels (which is important when you're staying somewhere for a couple of weeks, its inevitable that you'll stay in for a couple of the evenings) but out of all the channels there is only one English speaking channel - a news one. This wasn't made clear.
- It's lucky we took our iPad and music with us, as we couldn't find the stereo mentioned in the villa listing either.
- The bathroom is really badly designed and there is no separate shower, only a shower attachment on the bath taps and no curtain. This makes is very difficult to have a shower and impossible to do so without drenching everything in the bathroom.
- The master bedroom area has two single beds pushed together, which I'm pretty sure wasn't in the listing. This isn't a comfortable or practical way to sleep next to a partner. In addition, one of the beds is so noisy that any tiny movement on it woke both of us up - the antique bed may be pretty, but it needs to be practical, and this one wasn't.
- This is a very personal thing next, but there is a lot of art in the barn - which is great in itself, but lots of its subject matter fairly dark and even a bit disturbing (and is mentioned in the guest book by other guests too) which combined with the darkness of the space created quite an oppressive feeling overall.
- If all of these things were made clearer, we wouldnt have booked the villa.

If you're looking for a villa thats a good base to explore from and that also is nice enough to spend time in, I'm not sure Casa Rosina is for you.
