A solemn and clear space, this cemetery has SUCH a difficult history of its use before it was a final resting place. However, it doesn’t draw upon that, but rather pays the utmost respect to ALL those that served in all militaries of different time periods. The monuments are clean, well-kept, and stunning, and we immediately quieted ourselves to simply show respect to the lives that were lived and lost throughout our history. We are grateful for such a simple and appropriate way that this space is designed and maintained. Thank you to those who keep it, and to those who lost their lives and are interned here.

I have a great respect for our military personnel. Putting their life on the line, sacrificing family, for preserving our rights, our country. 3 of my family members permanently reside here.

The impact of rows upon rows of Union Dead leaves a strong impression on those who travel to see it! Seeing so many fallen in service to our Nation makes the Civil War real to anyone visiting these grounds.

Camp Butler is located away from the busy pace of Springfield which makes for a quiet setting amidst well manicured surroundings. If you're taking a trip to Springfield to view and experience its rich history - Camp Butler should be on your list. Memorial services are held frequently for family and friends of recently lost loved ones who served our country. The ceremonies are always done with such taste and dignity - even in very cold weather. If you come upon a time in your life where you've lost a loved who dedicated part of his or her life by serving in the military, Camp Butler is a worthy consideration.
