You gotta love a place that just doesn't really go for that flair that has nothing to do with providing a great product and a great service at a great price. Not the flashiest place in town but certainly one of the best bargains. Breakfast crowd is local if that tells you anything. The locals always know a good place. Never heard of a horseshoe before I stopped here. Now I know there's breakfast and dinner horseshoes. I myself couldn't handle the breakfast horseshoe so I grabbed a pony by the reigns and got after it. Whats' a pony? It's a pile of good food. Start with eggs, add has browns or fried potatoes. Throw on some breakfast meat. Pour on some cheese sauce or gravy and enjoy. Comes with toast. Friendly folks. Service was great. Not too far from Lincoln's Tomb.

I have been to Ritz's many times for breakfast and lunch. They have real good breakfasts. Everything is always hot and their home fries are excellent. Also, if you are looking for the signature Springfield dish, the horseshoe, you will find one of the best here. My favorite is the fried pork tenderloin shoe. I will warn you: you will need a nap after you eat one of these.

Our group of 12 to as many as 20 has breakfast here once a month. The omelettes are large, delicious and inexpensive. The service is great. All orders arrive at the same time, the coffee is refilled without asking and the waitresses are all friendly.

but that really isn't our type of breakfast so we didn't order any breakfast horseshoe or pony meals. Biscuits & gravy were quite good as the biscuit is very good, gravy ok (was lacking in amount of sausage present and also far too creamy/flour). Hash browns are outstanding, the perfect combo of crispy & bite. Wife's ham was not ham off the bone but slices of a deli style ham so have to take points off for this. Really liked this place as it is an independent locals joint but the food we had just didn't deliver.

Ritz's is a family owned restaurant on the site formerly occupied by a farmer\'s market. The parking lot seems large enough but is often filed at lunch. Breakfast recently was a bit slow, that is, they didn't have a full house. We were there about 8 AM and nearly had our choice of tables. That was unusual since it has to be one of the best breakfast locations in town. We met some friends and all felt both the service and the food was excellent. The waitress was attentive and after taking our orders, came back to refill the coffee cups as needed. Food was out within 10 minutes or so and was good. The "breakfast horseshoe" is one of the best to be had in Springfield. It also approaches 2200 calories and is only for the very ambitious i.e. two pieces of toast topped with sausage patties, eggs, hash brown potatoes and a tasty cheese rarebit sauce. Eat one of these and you could be done for the rest of the day. It also comes in a smaller size, called the breakfast pony.
If you haven't tried Ritz's on west Jefferson in Springfield, it is worthy of a try. But only on weekdays, never on Saturday or Sunday.
