Definitely worth the walk to see this! We visited in May and water was too cool for my liking but still a nice adventure.

Visited early morning so swam in my own. I don’t mind that it’s algae covered although I wish people would remove their own rubbish.

Magical.

Don’t expect luxury changing rooms and a chlorine pool, but instead a dirty room and an algae slime pool.
But wow, how close to nature can you be!
Really cool experience, even if it takes 20 minutes and a hop over a stream to get there, it’s worth it!

Okay, all of Iceland is magical, but this place was just something else. The scenery was beautiful, and it'll be a swim I'll never forget. The water was a little cool the day we came, but we had the entire place to ourselves, and it was awesome! If you're in the area, I totally recommend this pool, just a little off the beaten path.

We were staying near here and thought we would have a look here. The road to the small parking area was bad with lots of pot holes in the deepish snow so you will definitely need a 4x4 to get here. We parked the car like others had as there was no defined parking spaces and couldn't tell where any ditches were as the snow was deep and nothing to indicate boundary.

It was probably about a 20 minute walk from the car to get to the pool. There was a narrow path which had been made through the snow which in parts were slippy so clamp ons would be best to wear. As getting closer to the pool the snow had melted in parts so you had to walk over the black sand/rocks etc.

When we got to the pool the surrounding area was pure ice so was very slippy so care is needed. The building at the end of the pool which I think is meant to be changing rooms however there was a massive snow drift and pile of snow and ice blocking the doors to the building which the doors were open. It was very difficult but I managed to climb over and on the pile of snow to have a look in the rooms which were very dirty, there were some clothes that had been left behind by people such as shorts, tops etc, it seemed more like homeless people had been staying in there.

The pool goes from shallow to deep. There is a pipe on one end which is pumping hot/warm water into the pool however the pool was barely warm. The water didn't seem overly clean and some rubbish etc on the bottom of the pool was off putting too.

Overall this place might be better in the summer months as the changing rooms might be cleaner and usable. The water might be warmer and cleaner in the summer, and access should be a bit easier. It is a nice walk to the pool especially in winter
