The region of Lago di Braciano is wonderful, so quite, so serene, and if you find an albergo-ristorante, like Alfredo, all is perfect; very good italian food, wonderful view on the terrace, grillade on Lago Braciano, with good italian wine, and often life is for singing around the lago in a wonderful nature.

We prebooked a large spacious room overlooking the lake for 5 nights in order to attend our daughter's wedding at another location in Bracciano. The hotel responded to our email and gave us the room we had asked for on checkin.

Albergo Ristorante Alfredo da Persichella 1960 is really a large restaurant that caters for locals and wedding celebrations, with 2-star rooms added. Its location on Lake Bracciano is excellent with great views of the lake from the sitting out/tables and chairs area outside on the ground floor. The restaurant/hotel location also provides easy access to other lake towns like Trevignano Romano by car - although the roads down to the restaurant/hotel are full of potholes. There is plenty of parking usually as the restaurant needs to cater for large numbers of wedding guests.

Checkin was friendly and efficient but access to the hotel rooms (on floors 1 and 2) is tricky, especially with heavy luggage. The stairway is narrow and the programmed lighting often goes out at inconvenient times. Although there is plenty of staff about - mainly serving the restaurant - there is no lift or bell service.

Our reasonably spacious room overlooked the lake and had a balcony with umbrella, table and chairs - but the room was nonetheless pretty basic, albeit with the ubiquitous TV high on the wall. The bed was comfortable enough but not a matrimonale; rather the usual 2 single beds put together. Surface areas in the room are few and somewhat quirky. There are no chests of drawers nor a full length mirror. While there is a large closet, there were only 6 hangers for our 5 day visit for 2 people, although the staff subsequently provided a few more. The bathroom is very small and has no surfaces to stash necessities. Lacking an aperture for the mortice lock, the bathroom door did not lock. The water pressure on the shower was also too weak

There is, however, very good daily maid service, which included daily clean towels and toiletries, although no shampoo is provided, only shower gel.

Noise from activities/wedding celebrations downstairs is often disturbing, unless the balcony door to the room is tightly shut, in which case the room become stuffy at night, making it necessary to leave the bathroom window open. Several nights we were disturbed by inconsiderate guests having loud conversations in the corridor outside our room.

Both the hotel/restaurant service are very good. Staff work hard, are very good, friendly and obliging. The breakfast service is especially good. The hotel administration is also efficient.

The wifi provides free wifi although the signal is much stronger and more reliable in the reception area rather than the rooms.

We ate 3 times in the restaurant, each time choosing seafood. I had a lovely lobster ragu and fettuccini, my wife a very good ravioli in creamy truffle sauce the first night. Some of the other seafood dishes (including the sea bass and smoked salmon) are very good, as was the local vini de casa and the continental breakfast, especially the cappuccinno. The insalata frutti di mare and grilled lake fish less good. Also the straccetti was far too oily and chewy. Best, however, to eat fairly early before the restaurant fills up and the staff are stretched.

Albergo Ristorante Alfredo da Persichella 1960 is then what it is. However, despite its flaws and limitations, we had a really excellent time during our stay, helped most importantly by the obliging staff. If we return to Bracciano, we would certainly return. One final small touch: we had to leave before they served breakfast at this hotel on our departure day. So, the manager called up the sister Alfredo hotel and arranged for us to have breakfast there. What better service could we have asked for?

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the lake

Very good value for money. Wonderful setting beside the lake with restaurant built out on a deck. Very extensive menu reasonably priced and well-presented. Very nice wine - their own label - for 6 euros. Bedrooms basic but ok and the view made up for everything. Friendly staff - particularly Joe who spoke excellent English. Recommended for couples looking for a peaceful break. Probably different in the summer and more suitable for families.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the lake with a balcony.
