New Barcavela is a nice hotel right at the beautiful sandy beach, it has a large garden with high trees and a pleasant shade. The rooms are well equiped, spacy, with a nice balcony, but the bathroom isn´t in a very good shape. Little bit old and not renovated. But you have everything you need here for your holiday. The rooms are daily perfectly cleaned. The real highligt of the hotel are its owners. We really had an exclusive care. They are very friendly. Nothing is a problem. And the way they cook! Each dinner was just fantastic. We could taste the wide spectrum of the local cuisine, fresh fish and sea food and many more. A real gourmet holiday!

Room Tip: The first floor romms have nice balconies.

Stayed here at the beginning of the season in early June, very quite, had the whole pool to ourselves most days. You have your own section of the beach with sunbeds and umbrellas, which when we stayed were free, however they started to charge on our last two days, which I found a cheek. The entrance to the hotel was disappointing and was not 4 star. The immediate surrounding area does not have much to offer in the way of shops or bars either, however the beach and sea are beautiful. All in all, it was a quiet location with not many facilities, but very relaxing and beautiful.

When we arrived at the hotel we had a nice escort to our room, which we thought was very nice, until we realized the reason for this: the lights didn't work on the outside of the rooms so it wasn't possible to see anything. They didn't get the lights working for three more nights. The hotel is quite old, and you can feel it. The showers are tiny and cramped. When I called before we left to ask if my wife should bring a hairdryer, the woman told me "Yes, because the ones in the rooms usually don't work". The pool is okay with a fun waterslide but also very old. Maybe we just haven't spent much time on beach holidays in Italy, but I was very shocked to see that the pool was only open from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00.

We had half board so we tried to make it back each day in time for dinner, but the quality of the food didn't warrant it. The only problem with not having half board is that the closet restaurant/cafe is almost 1km away. When we came up from the beach around 15:00 one day and wanted to get something to eat, the hotel restaurant turned us away explaining that lunch is only from 13:30 to 14:30. This, coupled with very poor overall service and an extremely low level of English by all staff at the hotel, made it difficult to order or explain anything we wanted.

The "private" roped-off beach was very nice, and the hose available for guests to rinse off after being in the sea was a welcome surprise. Overall the hotel was not that bad, if we would have expected a basic 3 star hotel. Instead we were expecting the 4 stars claimed in the brochures and internet and thus we were a bit surprised.

An extremely nice looking hotel with an amazingly small number of rooms (=fewer people). It's covered by beautiful tall evergreens. The hotel has got an amazing pool, although the tobogan was not functional most of the time. The pool itself is great, huge, with enough seats and almost no one around most of the time. As you can probably tell by now, we prefer fewer people around. The rooms are nice, clean, tv has got some English stations. The beach is fine, it's private in that it's separated by a string on each side from the public beach. I hated having to pay for the seats on the beach (they are free at the pool). They clean the beach every morning so no problem with garbage. The food was alright most of the time, although we were served some pretty awful meals, mostly beef-based. Dinners were included in our package, and mostly there was a choice of up to three meals. Too bad it was difficult to figure out what the meals were, in spite of attempted English names. What I found most amazing was that most of the waiters spoke almost no English. Basically the daytime concierge was the only person we were able to communicate with when we needed anything. That said, everyone there was extremely polite and friendly. Ordering meals required a lot of body and sign language, but we managed. Like I said, the waiters were very friendly. The sea was beautiful, good for snorkling. The water was very clean and so was the sand. One of the better sands I've seen in Europe.Another plus: as long as it doesn't rain, meals are served at a the hotels terace which overlooks the beach and the sea. Sitting and eating there is spectacular. They have these huge palms threes there and most of the area is grassed. What I didn't care for: 1. A lot of garbage around the hotel, meaning outside of its premises. This is probably Sardinia's problem.2. The public beach to both sides of our little private beach got too crowded on weekends, when native Italians invaded it.3. Also the pool was all of a sudden busy (though not packed) on weeying in the hotel came over with kids. I think they knew someone from the staff. All in all, we loved the hotel, we loved the beach, although we also travelled a lot around the island. It's a must when you're there, Sardinia is beautiful!Car rentals are expensive! I could rent a limo in Canada for the money we paid there for a two door Fiat with what seemed like a motorcycle engine.Have fun!
