Walking into Seashells at Suncrest, one could be forgiven for thinking they are walking right into the 1980s. This place is VERY dated and more than a little kitsch. Gold chromed hand rails, mirror tiling and marble floors - feels a little like a Vegas casino.

After our first couple of nights in the hotel, it became clear that the nightly entertainment in the main bar was a revolving menu of a young sweaty Elvis impersonator or a kids disco which included such classic hits as Hokie Cokey, Time-Warp, The Birdy Song and Macarena. Also MTV or sports channel on the TV... ALL THE TIME!!!
The bar menu did little to make up for it. The package we had booked was an all-inclusive one, but the drink options available to us consisted of pitchers of watery beer or pre-mixed jugs of cocktail, in a variety of colours.
SOMEONE GET US OUT OF HERE!!!

We ventured farther afield from here on and luckily there is a tunnel under the hotel that leads directly into a bar over the street called Cheeky Monkeys. NOT KIDDING! If you find yourself staying at Seashells, do yourself a favour and go here instead - it's got a much better atmosphere and a decent range of cocktails made freshly in front of your eyes!!!

The room was alright - actually quite modern and certainly clean. We had a partial view of the sea, but mainly of the hotel over the side-street and part of the road. The area feels like there should be lots of nightlife within walking distance, but we certainly didn't find it. Back to Cheeky Monkeys again then!

The hotel restaurant offered quite a lot of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was a bit repetitive though after a few days. There was indeed a massive buffet, which was changed and refilled regularly by a team of staff. I should say that all the staff we encountered were very polite, helpful and friendly.
You could also get a meal by the pool if you wanted to spend your day soaking up some (cold) April sun (and wind). Yeah, it's pretty cold in April due to Malta being so flat and small, the wind flies right over it at some speed! Oh, by the way... the pool is salt water. Yes, you heard that right... SALT WATER!!! So, so cold.

We wouldn't stay here again, but then we wouldn't go to Malta again to be honest. We were looking for a bit of luxury for our anniversary and we were mis-sold Malta by a clueless travel agent from Thomas Cook - we won't be using them again either. Perhaps this sounds a bit harsh but, based on our experience, Malta really doesn't have much to offer for 20 - 35 year olds.

We thank you for your feedback and are glad that you were amongst other things satisfied with you room, the Cheeky Monkey gastropub and of course our staff.

Had you attended the welcome cocktail or even only spoken to one of the guest relations persons, they would have been able to tell you immediately about the Cheeky Monkey or even different places you could visit - especially the ones for people of your age.

The good thing about Malta being small is not only that it is windy at some part of the year, but that you do not ever have to travel much to find something interesting. Especially for those who are looking for cultural and even very upmarket activities, this is the time to visit Malta, with so much going on on the Valletta 2018 programme. Malta is not a sun and sea (which is by the way salty) destination only - it has so, so much more to offer.

We send our regards.

This one is really well worth a visit. Quality food and a really friendly service. Staff are excellent and really know their stuff. Add it to your itinerary on your visit to the island of Malta. Prices are most reasonable. Enjoy a quality eating experience.

Room Tip: Take time to enjoy this wonderful location.

Stayed at Seashells for a week on a B&B basis as part of an RSD Travel Malta tour.

The hotel was lovely - check-in was quick and reception staff pleasant and courteous.

Our twin room was on the 4th floor at the side of the hotel which afforded a limited sea view and overlooking a side street and the hotel next door. The room was clean and well equipped (tv, kettle, safe etc.).

The breakfast was served in a large dining room which was very light and sunny facing the seafront. The food was fine - catered for every taste but could probably do with serving a wider variety of fresh fruit.

Only sampled the hotel entertainment on 2 evenings - an Elvis tribute and one other occasion also a male singer. Both were fine and had the guests up dancing and singing. The bar was very busy on occasions and probably could have done with more staff. Prices were reasonable.

The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool (across the road from hotel but can also be accessed via a route from the hotel’s lower ground floor underneath the road) which looked large and clean. Plenty of sunbeds etc around the pool too. Guests also have use of a smaller indoor pool in the spa and leisure club just a few yards up the road from the hotel - which was fine on the day we used it as there weren’t too many people there. I can imagine it could get very crowded during peak holiday times.

The hotel is in a great spot right on the sea front (but you do have to cross a road), with lots of bars and restaurants around. The rear of the hotel is quite built up and there was a lot of construction work going on during our stay but as we were out most days it didn’t bother us.

There is a public transport bus stop just outside the hotel (across the road) but the bus station is only about 5-10 minute walk away and sometimes it was better to catch the bus there as they tended to be quite packed by the time they stopped at the hotel. Bus fares are cheap €1.50 for a ticket that is valid for up to 2 hours which can be used any number of times on any bus during that period. There are also other ticket options available which may be better/cheaper if you plan to use the buses a lot.

Apart from two trips organised by our travel company we explored Malta using the public buses and ferries and managed with no problems.

The two trips we did with the travel company - a general introduction to Malta (included in holiday costs) and a day trip to Gozo (paid extra for) were fabulous! The guide who accompanied us (Chris) was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The rep for RSD Travel at the hotel (Jonathan) was very informative and did not give us the hard sell. He also gave us information regarding the buses and the route numbers if we just wanted to do our own thing; nearest pharmacy, medical assistance etc.

Just a stroll along the front will take you into Bugibba and St Paul’s Bay. These resorts are busier than Qawra and have more shops, bars and restaurants.

I would like to visit Malta again and I would certainly stay at this hotel again. However I can imagine during peak periods that there would be a lot more people staying in this area and I could imagine the bars, restaurants, buses, etc would be quite crowded, which suits me fine whereas others may prefer it a bit busier so perhaps later in the season would be better.

This must be one of the most uncomfortable hotels I have ever stayed in. It may end upgraded in 2015, but not to a very high standard. They do give a choice of pillows, but the ones in my room were lumpy, possibly filled with kapok! I tried to find a comfortable seat in the hotel, but although there were plenty of sofas , they were all too low and difficult to get out of without a helping hand if you were over the age of 60 as most of the guests were.

There is only one bar with TV sets playing pop videos which nobody is watching and trying not to listen to, so what is the purpose of this ? The chairs are plastic and the waiting room at my local hospital is more inviting!

The restaurant is vast and all buffet style. The food leaves a lot to be desired. Everything over cooked, tough and tasteless.

On the plus side the hotel is clean and well maintained and in a good location, but it is more of a once only rather than a ‘will return’ hotel.

We would like to thank you for reviewing our hotel and are glad that you found the hotel to be well maintained and hope that you enjoyed the beautiful promenade.

We are sad we did not reach most of your expectations and remind guests that in case they do not like the pillows in their room, they can always let us know - we hope to find the type they are looking for.

Cheers.
