Over many years I have eaten occational meals at the White Cottage. Inside the seating is a bit depressing, but sitting outside along the river is rather special. It is worth a stop here inorder to have the chance to experience watching the water flow by.

For years of travelling into the area I avoided this place. It said Ice Cream and clams and the 2 together just didn't sound good. I finally stopped after the prodding of my wife and I am glad I did. Best lobster roll ever. The seating outside is comfortable and relaxing with access right down to the river. Great summer eats.

On our recent drive to VT, we spotted this cute little roadside eatery. Having skipped lunch, we both were a bit hungry. At first we thought about getting soft serve, but after seeing all the goodies on the menu boards, we decided to hot food instead. The staff seemed friendly and the food was good. So, on our way back home, we stopped again to have the ice cream cones we skipped the first time. Fresh, tasty and huge portions! Even the small cone weighed a pound. We took advantage of the warm, sunny day and sat outside on the covered benches by the river. According to the pictures on the wall, this little eatery had to be rebuilt of storm Irene. I'm glad they did.

Keep an eye out for it. It comes up quick, on the left side of Rte 4 when heading north.

Love the casual atmosphere and good food and the views along the river. We've been coming thru this area since 1971 and have made this one of our must do spots in the summer. The onion rings are great as is the soft serve ice cream. It's not summer to us without a visit to this "landmark in Woodstock". Parking on site. Indoor and Outdoor seating. Great views. We love White Cottage!!

We have driven by this establishment a number of times and bypassed it thinking - fried prepackaged yuk!!! Were we wrong! After a hot sticky morning geocaching we were tired, thirsty and famished. The White Cottage was at the base of one of our caches so we decided to brave it out. am I glad we did.

We ordered fish and chips that took about 20 minutes to prepare. This is not fast food but worth the wait. The fish was delicious and the breading was light and crisp.

We took our plates down to tables by the river with a cool breeze and were able to enjoy a fresh cooked, wholesome meal in picturesque surroundings.

If I have a complaint it is that there was too much food on my plate and I only finished 1/2.
