This is a very nice family run hotel. The rooms are basic but very clean. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. Meals in the garden restaurant were delicious and service was always with a smile, especially from Antonio who also makes a very nice tequila shot.
What we loved about this resort was the tapas bars as opposed to British-type bars. Good selection of restaurants.
Thank you Mercedes and your staff, we had a very enjoyable holiday.

No problem with wifi in room, however TV has only one channel. Haven't seen any staff, reception not usually manned. Haven't found way to swimming pool yet, but it looks like there may be no chairs or sun umbrellas. Room balcony is mainly sheltered from worst of sun in the afternoon, unlike other hotels more in town/beach central area.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view

Great location close to the beach and centre. Great views from the balcony. Very clean, friendly staff. The wifi in the restaurant and reception was fine but there is no reception at all in the room. The hotel offers excellent value for money and make sure you book a front facing room. Breakfast buffet good

Hands down this is the friendliest hotel I've ever had the pleasure to spend a week in. The rooms and surrounding areas are spotlessly clean and excellent value for money. The pool is a quiet retreat but, at this time of year, the beaches were never overcrowded either. The hotel restsurant is excellent, the views over the bay are exquisite but it's the people who make this hotel truly unique.

We stumbled across this hotel in a desperate moment after my mother in law had an accident at our original accommodation in the Andalusian hills. While she was in hospital with a fractured ankle and during the few days after, Mercedes and her team went over and above to ensure we were well cared for, could find the equipment we needed to aid her mobility and recovery and to make sure we still enjoyed our holiday as much as possible.

Thank you, just isn't enough.

Just back from a wonderful holiday in Almunecar (a coastal town in Granada) organised by Totally Sorted Sports which is run by a lovely couple called Ian and Julie. They will organise accommodation and any sports activities you choose and take you to and from airport (Malaga), hotel and sports venue(s). They also take you out and about. A lovely meal and drinks on your first night (included) sets you up for your activities and Ian's very well informed tour of the main places of interest gets you oriented and helps plan any cultural activities.

There are a selection of hotels to choose from but as I am a 64 year old woman travelling alone (neither husband or friends are interested in riding), I decided to stay at the 3* family run hotel Arrayanes Player, feeling that it would be more cosy and friendly than a larger hotel. I was not disappointed! The owner, Mercedes, is a lovely lady and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is right on the sea front and my balcony had a glorious view of the bay. Security is high with metal shutters easily move by a pulley over the balcony windows, although the crime rate is very low and I felt safe out at night on my own.

I usually stay in 4 or 5* hotels but the Arrayanes Player had everything that I personally look for (not in any order):Scrupulously clean, wonderfully comfy beds with memory foam mattress toppers, a hot, strong shower whenever needed, electric safe (included), lots of hanging space, fast responsive air conditioning, nice big towels, delicious food (3 course menu of the day with wine 10.99 euros!), good service.

The town of Almunecar is less touristy than some Spanish coastal towns and this is reflected in the fact that tapas are free in bars when you buy a drink. Julie and Ian take you on a tapas trail one evening where 15 euros in the kitty gets you five drinks and tapas, some of which are enough for a meal (e.g. plate of delicious pork stew with bread, plate of chicken wings) - incredible! There is plenty to see for the culture vulture (castle, monuments etc.) and plenty of shops, both upmarket and downright cheap. If you want to self cater there are large supermarkets (including Lidl) and lovely individual grocers and butchers. However, it's so cheap to eat out (I had a 3 course Chinese meal for less than 6 euros) so why bother? There are also bars on the beach where you can watch the sun set (2 euros for a glass of wine) and hidden bays with restaurants serving delicious food.

Now on to the part I went for - horse riding! I have such wonderful memories! The stables, owned by Heidi and Antonio is pretty much a menagerie. They have dogs, ducks, chickens, geese and even a parrot but of course I was mainly interested in the horses. Although they cater for all levels of rider (I can only walk and trot), the horses are not plodders and you are not left trailing at the back on an unwilling horse. All the horses are beautiful and wiling and safe. They mainly use Spanish tack with the saddles covered in sheepskin for comfort. The trails take you up in the mountains where the views are magnificent or along river beds and on the sandy beach by the sparkling sea. Even in March the weather was good. Very sunny every day of my week bar one.

Julie and Ian work really hard to ensure you enjoy your holiday and nothing is too much trouble. They furnish you with a map and a file detailing sites, restaurants and places of interest. Whatever you need they will organise for you e.g. a spa day or massage or trip to the Alhambra. They treated me more like a welcome guest than a client and I can't wait to go back!
