Celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary at this delightful little (seats 26!) restaurant in the little village of Kinderhook. Had just gotten back from a visit to Germany and was hooked on flammkuchen which we had as an appetizer and enjoyed the authenticity of their dish. The Pork Schnitzel Cordon Bleu was so generous that we both have leftovers for tonight's dinner, although the spaetzle was consumed on the spot! When I made reservations, I mentioned we were celebrating and with our flourless chocolate cake, the waitress lit a candle and sung to us . . . such a sweet touch!

The air conditioning was challenged to cool off the dining room due to the unusually high humidity and hot temps in our region, but on a night less hot I am sure we would be cool. Will definitely make a return visit although it is a 45 minute drive one way but the quality of the food and outstanding service is well worth the drive!

We had been hearing about this place for awhile and decided to try it... we were not disappointed!! We made reservations (recommended) as there is only seating for 26. We chose to try the sirloin steak, a house special burger and the house made Bratwurst "select two" of the Classic and Kaskreiner. We also tried the chilled soup of the day (Watermelon something) and the Roma Flammkuchen (flatbread). All 6 of us really enjoyed our meals. They have a nice selection of local crafted beers and wines. Our server was very friendly. We never felt rushed and enjoyed our experience at the Flammerie!
The only negative we felt was that it did get a little loud at times during dinner but that was expected based on the size of the room and the number of people there.

Always looking for a new dining experience close to home, we decided to dine at The Flammerie on a recommendation by my husband's co-worker and after reading the Times Union's 50 2016 Essential Restaurants. The item that sealed the deal so to speak was the option to choose a Chef's tasting menu with paired wines. You must notify the restaurant if you want to take this culinary journey at the time a reservation is made. We received a call form the chef's wife early on the day of our reservation to confirm the tasting menu choice and to inquire about any dietary restrictions. The restaurant is an old house that has been renovated to create a bar, small dining room and there is dining space outside as well. Because it was threatening to rain, we opted for a table in the dining room. We had 4 courses, an amuse buse and a dessert that featured locally sourced farm fresh summer ingredients with well selected wines to match the food. The portions were perfect in size, flavor and presentation. Service was outstanding - knowledgeable and attentive but not overwhelming. It should be noted that we often opt for a chef's tasting menu when offered. Sometimes it is a sampling of the regular menu items. This meal was not that - we felt as if the chef had taken the time to prepare a special meal for us and we truly appreciated his efforts. We will venture back to try the regular menu and in another season, try the tasting menu again.

I have been here 4 times or so. Excellent meals every time. Small and very personal with excellent service. You feel like a VIP. Try the pork belly app. Mussels were excellent also. I have had both the schnitzel cordon blu and the steak au poivre recently. Both were superb. The wood fired cinnamon crepe was in my dad's words the finest desert he ever ate.

2 weeks ago we had a #5 experience, this past weekend we had a #3 so I average it out to a 4!
It's still the BEST in the area & we will always go back.
2 items were less the 2nd time around.
1st time: The steak was brilliant moist tender perfectly cooked and ample.
2nd time: small, hard, overcooked dry and uninteresting.
1st time: The raviolis were plumb, moist, flavorful and substantial - very filling.
2nd time: they were small, hard, dry, overcooked and I left hungry.
What happened? Let's say the main chef was away or had a bad night.
But we will go back & hope it's a #5 again.
Appetizers (pork terrine, onion soup) and desserts(strawberry rhubarb crumble, creme brulee, beignes) were wonderful and great BOTH visits
