We found out about Bar Trevelez via the Motril tourism website, the site advises of 'Tapas Routes' - we wanted to find authentic tapas in the town but didn't want to feel like we were in a tourist trap. Motril certainly doesn't feel touristy - well not in early October anyway...and Bar Trevelez - couldn't be any more genuine.
The bar itself, typically Spanish, decorated with dark woods, a few tables and chairs inside and of course the bar with the beer taps all lined up. The stark contrast to a UK bar is that the venue is a lot smaller, I guess owing to the fact that sitting outside is more a realistic option all year around.
Anyway back to tapas. We used a phrase book to order 'tapas' - we didn't specify quantity, we'd just like to sample tapas. The waiter was a joy, we didn't speak great Spanish and he didn't speak great (if any) English...however we were served between us (two) about 15 dishes of fantastic tapas, ranging from basic olives with meat through to the tomato sauce pork dish and the pork stew you see in the photos.
Great quality food, prepared onsite clearly and made with care and attention.
We had the tapas, along with water and the entire 'event' came to less that €16 - we couldn't believe our eyes. This was embarrassingly cheap, especially given the attentive nature of the waiter.
Would definitely recommend seeking this bar out - be it for some real Spanish bar culture or indeed tapas at a price not to be sniffed at!
