Located the heart of the downtown area is Center Street that is lined with historical homes and buildings from the Revolutionary times through the 19th century. The historical society is housed in an 1820's Federal style home built by Dr. John Balzell.Inside are large spacious parlors that open into each other and can be closed off by pocket doors.THere are period furnishings and a grandfather clock collection. There's a period and a flower garden. Small gatherings, conferences, lectures and workshops are held at the society. Hours of visitation are Wed.--Saturday, 10--4 pm.
