We had cod and chips from this little gem on a Friday night in Portscatho and they were fantastic... great portion of fish and lovely chips to accompany it.

After reading the reviews I was really looking forward to this and we went along with high hopes.

The chips were excellent, the beef dripping made them really tasty and crisp.

The fish (I had the cod) was a bit of a let down though, the batter was excellent (again the beef dripping doing it's thing) and was really crisp and light. Inside the fish was spongy and overcooked and had what I thought might have been a second layer of batter on it that was almost chewy - as though it had been cooked once then re-fried with fresh batter before being served.

There were a few people eating in the car park but we wondered down to the water's edge (it was high tide) and sat on the boat ramp.

Staying in Portscatho it was lovely to find this Fish and Chip van cooking in proper beef fat (sorry vegetarians!). You have to queue up but there was a nice mix of locals and tourist having a good chat. And its worth the wait as the fish and chips are just great - lovely flavour.

Lovely fish, chips and mushy peas, round the corner from our holiday cottage. Some people drive to car park next to lay by. Favourite with the locals. Be prepared to queue and wait a little while.
