We were looking for a beach area for just a short afternoon stop. This was perfect. You can drive on the beach (requires a beach pass), and park where you want to relax. The beach was clean, sand smooth (no broken shells, or seaweed). And we did get to see a few surfers on the water!
We always go to this beach whenever we are in the Corpus area. The sand is beautiful and fine and the water is clear most of the time. The part of the beach we visit is on Zahn Rd. We just went this week (June 26-30 2016) and it was perfect! We even decided to try going to the national sea shore where you have to pay to get in. We thought it would be nicer, but it was gross! There were so many dead crabs everywhere you couldn't even walk and the smell was worse! We just ended up back at JP luby surf park. We saw and held starfish. My husband and daughters also found a lot of shells and whole sandollars! We recommend this beach to anyone who's tired of the same old dirty beaches.
It was a sacred-hallowed spot,it was wonderful to be there for sunrise and see the water as it glows! It is on my "Bucket List" to return here soon!!!
My Husband and I found this park by accident as we were driving between Padre Island National Seashore and Mustang Island State Park. At the entrance of the park, there is a large parking lot with a boat ramp that leads into a channel. Fisherman, Kayaker and Canoers were launching their boats there. There is a very long and wide concrete sideway along the channel. We loved walking along the channel. There is camping near the channel and on the beach. The best way to get there is to cross the JFK Causeway Bridge (highway 358) from Corpus Christi. Next, turn left on highway 361 just 1 mile down the road. The park is about one half mile down 361. Turn right at Zahn Road.
Love this beach. We went the first weekend of sorting break and it was nice not to packed. The kids had a great time. The beach was well patrolled.
It has been years since I have been back to JP Luby Surf Park. The sand is soft and like powder, the water is nice and clear, the surf is ok and the fishing is great. You can drive on the beach. The beach was very clean and kind of crowded. I would imagine that was because of summer vacation. I am wanting to buy a vacation place here soon.
