We stopped in here for lunch to see if this place was as good as we'd heard it was. And it was!!! We ordered comida corrida, which is the daily special. It comes with a drink, fideo (noodle) soup, chips, salsa, your entree and your choice of flan or tres leches cake. All for under $20 and that includes the tip. I had cheese enchiladas with refried beans and Mexican rice, my husband had bistec ranchero, which is beef in ranchero sauce, with churro beans and rice. Very large portions! We should've asked for to-go boxes to take some home but we didn't. We both cleaned up our plates! There was a little bit of a language barrier but we managed ok. There was one waitress who understood English and that helped a little. They don't take credit cards so be prepared for that. We'll definitely be going there again!

Emilia's is a very good authentic-cuisine Mexican restaurant located on Padre Island Boulevard (a/k/a Bownsville-Port Isabel Highway or Highway 48). The restaurant is situated in an attractive building and has a pleasant interior. (See my photo of the red building; the Trip Advisor photo of a brick building is of another restaurant, "Emilia's Old House," whcih is in downtown Brownsville.) The food is quite good. On this visit, I ordered the Fajitas Guadalajara, which is quite different than the typical fajitas dish you'll find elsewhere. As shown in the photo, it is a beef dish, generously covered in melted cheese (with bits of bell pepper and onion). It was well (though mildly) seasoned, and very tasty. The service was prompt and friendly, and the food very fairly priced.

Vacationing on South Padre Island for the month of October we happened upon Emilia's while in Brownsville shopping. The parking lot was full and that's a good sign.

We made our way inside and got a glimpse of the place, You could tell right away it was the local spot for Mexican food, menu was in Spanish, so question's in order for us gringos. The waitress was friendly and she made sure I got what I wanted...felt like I was in Mexico and enjoyed the meal, Wow reasonable and really good. Two plates at lunch under $15.00 drinks not included.

Included in the price of the meal was a soup with a beef broth, thin pasta and cilantro, very tasty!

Authentic atmosphere complimented the restaurant, I could find no problems with the food or service...remember your about a mile from the Rio Grande River and Mexico.
God Bless Texas

Authentic Mexican food at its best. They do not speak English, but I'm sure you can wrestle up enough Spanish to get by. The food is outstanding. We got Emilia's Special for two. Beef and chicken fajitas, nachos, quesadilla, salad, avocados, and soup. We make the drive every time we're in South Padre.
