“Talk to the Sea Lions!”

Crescent City Harbor
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 2 April 2018

If you drive out to the pier, you can get quite close to some sea lions basking in the sun on a nearby floating dock. They are super talkative and interact with each other in between their naps. Drive around the city out to the lighthouse and you can walk around on the rocks during low tide and find hermit crabs, starfish, and snails!

We're glad you got to visit the Harbor when there were a group of Sea Lions in the area. It's fun to watch them try to crowd in on the docks and to hear the chorus of barking from the Sea Lions already on the docks. It's great no-charge entertainment.

It was fun to walk around the harbor, watch the sea lions lay in the sun, and hear them bark at each other. The harbor was very quiet on Sunday and Monday (most things are closed on these days). Overall, a fun experience!

We're very happy that you got a sunny day to walk around the harbor and enjoy the Sea Lions! There are quite a few Sea Lions in the Harbor this time of year and they always seem to putting on some kind of show - whether its trying to push their way onto an already crowded dock or barking their protests about getting pushed out of their space. We hope you also got to see some Harbor Seals - much less boisterous than the Sea Lions - but still fun to see. Thank yo for taking the time to write a review about your experience!

I appreciate you taking the time to write a great review for the Harbor!

It took three years to rebuild the marina following its total destruction by the March 2011 Tsunami that was generated by a massive earthquake in Japan. The new design is purpose-built to withstand what is considered to be a fifty year tsunami event. All the pilings are driven into bedrock so that they won't be dislodged by tsunami wave action.

This harbor is a designated Harbor of Safe Refuge. It is the only harbor not situated at a river mouth from
Gold Beach, Oregon, located on the Rogue River, to the north of Crescent City down to Noyo Harbor, California, on the Noyo River, to the south of our port.

Because there are no river bars to cross to enter our harbor, many large yachts transiting the Pacific Coast often choose to moor at our marina to wait out the weather or to purchase fuel.

I hope you had time to sample the food from some of the many restaurants located around the harbor.

Please come back soon!

I have lived across from the harbor for 3 mos. Take my dog over there for walks daily and he's loved it as well. Easy access to restaurants, park and beaches.

The Harbor District is really a great place to explore on foot. Thank you for writing about your experiences here. The variety of wildlife alone always makes for an interesting walk.

At low tide, you can stroll along for miles on South Beach if you want a real workout for you and your dog. I've done it a couple of times and have run out of energy long before my dog did.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

Such a great view of the harbor. The ships are huge and there are so many seals to see hanging out by the rocks, along the shore! Such a great place to visit!
