Stayed the evening after a wedding. The front desk staff very nice and helpful, quick and easy check in. Room was lovely, clean and inviting. Historical hotel, with thin walls, but I expected that for the age of the hotel. Lovely and nostalgic and I would stay there again. Had breakfast in the restaurant, and it was great. The service staff in restaurant was so friendly, you felt like you were at home.
To add for the wedding ... the service staff fantastic, bar service so nice! Thank you for a great evening!!

My wife and I wanted to explore Salem and visit the Peabody/Essex Museum. We chose the Hawthorne Hotel for it's excellent reviews, central location to all the main attractions, free parking and free WiFi. Very comfortable clean room, excellent beds, great view from the windows. We were on the fourth floor, and could see the Salem Witch Museum from our room. The staff were very kind, polite and helpful. Kevin is great, we enjoyed talking to him. They have a nice restaurant, a tavern and have coffee and hot water for tea in the lobby most of the day. We would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here the night of November 16th, the room was very small, but that was what I expected. The room and bathroom were both very nice and clean and the staff was great. We had a nice stay. The elevator acted a little crazy on us, but that only added to the mystery of the historic hotel. I would stay there again, the location could not be more convenient and the parking is great.

Dear Melinda S,

Thank you for giving us a try. We are indeed not your typical cookie-cutter hotel, so we do have rooms that are on the smaller side. It was nice to read that you enjoyed your stay!

Couldn’t wait to take my son and his girlfriend to Salem. Have been here 3 times already and ALWAYS stay at the Hawthorne. It’s just my tradition. I️ always request room the same room, but being that there was 4 of us I️ needed either a bigger room or extra baths. They had room 325 ready for us ( not haunted) but it had 1 bathroom and the shower was a closet.. not very clean, nowhere to even dry off and get dressed.. and the bathroom was in between the two rooms. Did not know there would be a wedding going on and the room was right above it.
The other room 616, nice two bathrooms but very small room!!
Yes it is an old hotel, but being old doesn’t mean to “not “ update .. (keirig, bathrobes, extra shelves to but toiletries) on...
But I️ must say, everyone was very nice.

We were on a Fall Leaf tour of New England and since it was 9 days before Halloween thought Salem Ma would be a great stop for a day. Even though arriving on a Sunday the activity was at full force including street fairs and many people in Halloween garb. Fining a room even a few weeks in advance was a bit difficult but there was space at this hotel and we enjoy historical older hotels so we gave it a try. Unfortunately we arrived about the same time as a tour group from NJ of senior ladies who seemed very disorganized and confused from check in to even operating the old, dated elevator or even deciding which floor their room was on. Needless to say we waited for a very long time to even get on an elevator to get to our room after a long day on the road. Our room was very small and they evidently had added the small bath to create a room where one had not originally been. The halls were noisy but we managed to get to sleep. The hotel staff were accommodating and helpful to the extent the could and the lobby and bar were nice although I question charging $18 for 2 beers. The city at Halloween appears to be quite festive and we may make a longer trip over that time next year but will probably seek other accommodations farther in advance.
