The Henry Derby House is a fabulous home to stay in for a few days. We stayed two nights in the Red Room and our friends stayed in the Mauve Room. We each had a private bath. Each morning we had a pretty extensive continental breakfast with Phil, the owner of the house. Both he and his wife Jocelyn are greats hosts and they had just had their first child who was adorable. Jocelyn greeted us upon arrive and gave us places to go and places to avoid and showed us around the house. The house was centrally located so we could walk wherever we wanted to go. We loved staying with them - we felt like family and were treated as such. The house is clean, well appointed and very comfortable. Next time we visit Salem we will definately stay with them.
What a lovely place to call home for a few days! Was very comfortable and within walking distance of everything! Jocelyn is a wonderful hostess who was quick to see to our every need! Breakfast was plentiful each morning of our three day stay and as a special treat for our daughter's 21st birthday, we were lucky enough to have breakfast in the garden! Was sad on Wednesday when it was time to leave, but we will definitely be back!
Stayed at the H Derby House in historic Salem, when my girlfriend and I went for a short romantic escape in Boston in August, 2014. Getting to the House was straightforward, as was parking nearby. We were greeted by a friendly host and were pleased to discover a comfortable room. The house is pretty old, which gives it a lot of cachet. It is close do downtown, which makes going out for lunch or dinner by foot a breeze. Public transportation to Boston is simple and the train station is only a short walk away. The ferry is only a bit farther, but worth the experience.
We were pleased at the warm reception and friendly service we received from Phil, Jocelyn and their employees. We were treated to a nice breakfast each morning, an occasion to get to know the other guests and converse with our hosts as if we were personal guests of theirs.
All in all, the nice location, old-school cachet, and warm, friendly hospitality makes this a great location for a romantic or family get away, one which I would heartily recommend! Kudos to Jocelyn and Phil! Look forward to visiting you again!
Comfortable rooms...Good food...Great service...within walking distance of Everything in Salem....park the car and enjoy the town... The communal breakfasts brought everyone together to share stories and travel tips....Loved our time there..
First off Jocelyn is extremely nice and sweet. She made sure my wife, daughter and I knew the lay of the land and where to go and what to avoid. The house is pretty old and we loved it. Very comfortable bed. We stayed 2 nights. Great location close to downtown and within walking distance of most of the major attractions. We will definitely stay here again when we go back to Salem! Highly recommend. Great breakfast spread too.
