An outstanding 29-minute light and sound show that reviews the history of Texas with the music that illustrates the various periods.
Offered three times per night and five nights per week.

We stayed at a hotel which our balcony faced the Cathedral. It was very nice to sit on the balcony and look at how pretty the Cathedral was. Every Sunday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, they project a show with music on the face of the Cathedral called the SAGA. It is absolutely amazing. It tells the history of San Antonio and Texas. We saw it 4 times. Once right in front of the Cathedral and 3 times from our balcony (we could hear the music from our balcony). Inside the Cathedral was so beautiful. We went to Saturday night mass at 5:30 which was in English and had a full orchestra which played Christian/Mexican music. Beautiful mass.

This church is a short distance from the Alamo and the Governor's Palace. Inside the church they have the remains of Bowie and Davy Crockett who died at the Alamo. We felt that it was worth the short walk to view the church. It is very pretty outside and inside.

San Fernando Cathedral was founded in 1731, the oldest in Texas and among the oldest in the US. It was the church from which Santa Anna flew the “no quarter” flag telling the Alamo defenders he would kill everyone and take no prisoners. Remains of Alamo leaders Travis, Crockett and Bowie were exhumed in 1936 and interred here in 1938. See the Spanish Governor’s Palace behind it.

My wife and I enjoy visiting churches when we travel and so stopped here for a chance to sit quietly in the coolness and relax. We left more content and centered and ready to continue our touring. While this church is not as ornate as many others, the interior certainly conveys a strong spiritual and historical feeling.
