This is a GREAT tour. Great for adults but especially for the kids. My two girls were MAD when it was over! They had a blast zipping along and learning some history along the way! The price was $50 a scooter and I'd pay it again today.
Moms don't worry...kids are required to wear all safety gear and your guides will check everyone's ability before hitting the trail. You don't even have to pay up front. You can test out the scooters before you pay and make sure you and the rental company are comfortable with everyone's safety and ability. Again, don't worry, it is not difficult and a lot of fun! You don't have to be in great shape for this tour. Very laid back and relaxing!
These are not your regular scooters. They're not the "razor" brand that most kids have. You ride them just like those brands but they are electric and very durable. They have shocks for a more comfortable ride and they have hand controls on the handle bars. A finger trigger to go and a break lever to stop. Very simple to operate and fun to ride!
Ages eight and up are allowed to ride single on the electric scooter as long as they can operate the scooter safely. My eight yr old's hands were a bit too small to operate the hand brake so she rode with me. She was discounted to $15 as an extra rider but we had a ton of fun together. She operated the bell and was on navigation duty!! My eleven yr old was a pro after about ten minutes of practice and we were on our way! Scooters have adjustable handle bars so everyone has a comfortable ride.
The tour was about two hours long and was full of history as well as a lot of cool "scootin". We chose the Mission Conception tour because it has a little more cruising space for the kids. You will do some riding in the city but there is less congestion on this tour from what we heard.
Our guide Jose was great with the kids. Very informative, professional and likable. Jose was very attentive and wary of all his riders and their surroundings. I.E road signs, cracks in the road, keeping everyone in a group ect. Water and sunscreen was provided during the tour and we made a stop for ice cream on the way back! Holy cow the water melon sorbet was "stupid good"!!!!
This was a high light for the kids. When asked their favorite part of the trip....you guessed it....Scooter Tour!!
Things to look out for.
1.Travel light for the tour. I took a back pack and my wife took a shoulder bag and we had everything we needed. Big bulky bags are going to slow you down as well as get in the way.
2. Wear closed toe shoes. Flip flops could be a hazard while scootin!
3. Dress comfy. It's hot in San Antonio and you'll be out for a couple of hours.
4. They take plenty of breaks for water, that is provided, but if you want to bring a couple extra bottles of power aid or energy bars in the back pack it couldn't be a bad idea. P.S. - Hydrate before hand
I highly recommend this tour and ask for Jose. The kids loved him and had a blast. Plus, it's not as hot when you're cruising along on your scooter! Have fun!
