We were searching for authentic New Mexican food (as we've never been) and wanted something special and elevated with a local/organic slant. As we strolled the rest of the Railyard area, we couldn't help but be disappointed at the mediocrity of some of the other restaurants we walked by. We wanted fresh, bold flavors and a chance to try creative twists on such a dynamic cuisine. We found all that and more at Tune Up.
A little off the beaten path, you can tell this is a place for locals. Our server was knowledgable and passionate about how their ingredients were sourced, and helped us make spot-on menu decisions. We ended up trying the veggie pupusa, and two of their nightly specials - the squash blossom quesadilla and the lamb barbacoa tacos. Coupled with their uniquely spicy sauces, all of the dishes were flavor creations that were memorable and craveable.
Since it was my birthday dinner, we topped it off with a slice of their carrot cake at our servers on-point recommendation. He was right - it was hands-down the best carrot cake we'd ever had.
A few other nuggets for your reviewing pleasure: The place has a great on-tap beer selection. Don't expect "true" margaritas as they don't currently have a liquor license, but the hibiscus wine Rita sounded pretty dynamite. Also, if dining al fresco is your thing you will find the patio to be well lit and charming, a great ambiance to enjoy the local flavors. We will most certainly be back :).
