Stephanie was our guide on a Jewish history tour of Santa Fe, she was outstanding, very knowledgeable, was able to answer all our questions. She has a Ph.D. in history, has extensive teaching and research experience, highly recommend.

Recently, as a party of four, we hired Stefanie, to be our guide for a trip to Bandelier National Park, New Mexico. The guidelines for payment were not made clear to us - or at the very least we did not understand them. It turned out that we paid $50 per hour for 7.5 hours of Stefanie's time! This included the travel time, when she was driven by a member of our party in our hire car, although admittedly she did some 'guiding' on the way. She imparted her knowledge well in the national park but, having had a negative experience with a guide in the past, I became suspicious when she insisted on taking us to a taco stall. This turned out to be well off our beaten track. We even paid for her lunch! She thus inflated the time she spent with us by two hours! We were not happy at the end of this day. Moreover, she did not relate well to the group. Little did she know that the group included another PhD and another travel guide of such high calibre that my husband and I have become close friends with her and her husband.

Another PhD who travels

I have taken walking tours with companies large and small all over the world, and the quality of the tour guide and value of the content can vary greatly. Sometimes all you get is a college kid with a summer job who memorized a "fact sheet." Very far from the case here. We took two tours with Stefanie, the Combo Santa Fe + Jewish Tour and the Women's Tour, and both were excellent. She is personable, knowledgeable and her information is based on extensive personal and academic research. Her commentary was balanced - rather than paint only a rose-colored view of Santa Fe (though the hues are gorgeous!), she gave us the wonderful aspects as well as the critique. Highly recommended.

We took the Combination Santa Fe + Jewish History three-hour tour. The value for money was very good.
This is a walking & listening/talking tour. Stefanie has impressive educational and professional accomplishments all of which inform her tours.
We started in the Plaza. She presented information from many historical periods and perspectives. Santa Fe's role as a remote outpost in the Spanish empire was made evident. We talked about the evolving relations between the indigenous peoples and the interloping Spanish. Stefanie also gave a helpful introduce to the regional geology, a few local environmental issues, some local politics, and some regional national parkland news.
On the porch of the St Francis hotel, Stefanie presented a well-researched introduction to the history of the Jews of Santa Fe. Much of the information centered on Governor Oñate. But, she distinguished well the various Jewish in-migrations, and changing nature of Jewish identity and observance in the region, up through the present day.
Stefanie is very comfortable taking and answering questions, as well as listening to ideas/comments from us.
Total distance walked about 1 mile. Pacing of the trip was very good for our needs, and sit-down stops were included.
Overall, hard to imagine a better tour in a walking/talking format. We are glad we took this tour.

Stephanie was very informative. We thoroughly enjoyed the three hour walking tour. It include lots of sites, as well a good commentary . The highlight was hearing about the Crypto-Jews of the area. There was plenty of opportunity to rest, and as well use a bathroom facility. It was well organized.
