Hotel La Fonda is very close to the Basillica, and is in a very convenient location.
This was one of the first hotels in Santa Fe created by the Atchison,Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company. This train line allowed goods to be transported more quickly and efficiently, and thus avoiding the arduous cross country trails. It also created the beginning of tourism to the area.
La Plazuela is an attractive place to eat in the hotel. It is situated in a beautifully decorated area in the middle of the hotel. Flowers, trailing greenery and skylights make the restaurant inviting.
An interesting selection of high end stores are within the hotel and right next to this restaurant.

We enjoyed dinner for two last night (Saturday). Waited until the night before to reserve a table, first availability was 8:30 p.m. - key message: make a reservation, at least on weekends. The restaurant is adjacent to the historic plaza, so its easy to walk to and equally easy to find from nearby downtown hotels. We were seated promptly, service was attentive, but not breathing down our necks like many american restaurants. The made to order table side prepared guacamole was a treat, and we enjoyed fajitas for two, which came with two sopapillas and honey. No desire or room for desert. The decor and ambience were on point - authentic to New Mexico but not frozen in time. Dishes were priced appropriately. This place is a keeper.

Great start to my Santa Fe visit. Reservations for 8:30 so enjoyed a margarita and live music in the bar before dinner. Guitar and pan flute. Restaurant was gorgeous and the service was excellent. Highly recommend the table side guacamole and vegetable tacos. Came back the next day to visit the gift shop near the dining room.

Nice atmosphere. Would strongly recommend reservations to get a seat in the main section of the restaurant. We had the the Shrimp Fajitas for two. Good. They served bread and butter instead of chips and salsa. We had the El Campanario margarita which is cucumber with spicy chili powder. Very good and interesting with a slight spicy kick to the drink. Definitely task the cucumber. Enjoyed very much.
We ate at three Mexican restaurants in Santa Fe.
The best was Tamasita's Restaurant.
I had The Frogg Margarita: Great
My wife had the Sangarita / Margarita Swirl: also Great
The Grand Nachos: Awesome.

Had lunch here and the food was very goodl. The ambiance is great and the waiter attentive. My only criticism is that the flan for dessert was supposed to come with raspberries. Only 2 and very light on the other fruit.
It is fairly expensive for lunch but at least you get good food. I paid $120 US for lunch for 3 without wine which was expensive when converted to Canadian dollars. That meant over $170 Canadian at 34% .
