La Posada is a historic hotel in a fantastic downtown location, but it needs an update. It's just a few lovely blocks from the Santa Fe plaza with many shops and restaurants nearby. We enjoyed the fireplace in our room but otherwise found it dark, in need of a good cleaning (especially the windows and window frames), and in need of updates (bedding had a hole, no dresser in room, furniture dated, not quaint, bathroom window was rusty and screenless). Service was generally friendly (valets were great), but slow. Even though we had a fireplace in our room, I had to call at least once each day to get the wood refilled. Our TV didn't work, and it took a day for it to be fixed. Service in lounge was slow and inattentive. For a place that bills itself as a luxury resort, charges luxury rates, and is an SPG property, I expect more attention to service, amenities, and detail.

Room Tip: Rooms away from roads are quieter; fireplaces in rooms are nice

Dear Mimismama,

It is always a pleasure to receive a review from a loyal SPG member. We were glad to learn that you enjoyed our great location, the fireplace in your room and our valet service. It was doubly disappointing to read about the areas that did not meet your rightfully high expectations and we sincerely apologize for those. Please be assured that your feedback has been shared with management and staff. All of us wish you a safe and pleasant journey and hope you will have the opportunity to visit again soon.

Sincerely,

The only great thing about this place turned out to be the Valet boys. They were fantastic - upbeat and very personable. Completely opposite to the people at reception. Don't have breakfast in the hotel; ours was stone cold and it shouldn't have been!

La Posada is a nice place with a good location two blocks off the Plaza. Friendly staff, a nice spa, courtesy valet parking and Starbuck’s coffee in the lobby in the morning. Located on six acres, the rooms are in small adobe-style casitas. The place could use an upgrade though. Shows its age and wear and tear. Probably a pretty good value by SF standards. I’d stay here again but not if I were looking for a really nice, five-star lodging/spa experience (and there are a lot of those in SF).

A work conference brought me to La Posada in Santa Fe. The grounds are beautiful...though expansive and I did wander trying to find my room when I checked-in as the sequence of numbers is confusing and way-finding signage should be more prevalent. That said, I had a first floor patio room that was very nice, comfortable. Meeting facilities were great; the patio restaurant very nice; great location to The Plaza (tons of restaurants, shops, galleries); cool bar...and the spa...fabulous. Where this place suffers is in its staffing...not enough. Luckily I didn't spend much time in La Posada's restaurants as most meals were included with the conference but my final morning I waited 20 minutes to be seated in a half empty restaurant, waited another 15 minutes for a server, food and beverage service was slow and I actually had to walk around to get silverware and a napkin when my food was dropped off and I had to hunt down my server for a second cup of coffee. On my second day there, after conferencing all day, I returned to my room at 4:30 p.m. and it had not been cleaned yet. Housekeeping finally came at 6 p.m. The other reviews are dead-on, this place needs more staff. All-in-all, it was a pleasant stay...Santa Fe is very laid-back with really good restaurants...make sure to stop at Canyon Road. The Santa Fe Cafe is amazing!

Room Tip: A lot of walking, ask about your room location as some step down or you walk up stairs so you could have difficulties with luggage.

We researched many hotels in Santa Fe before choosing La Posada. After spending the week there, we're very happy with our choice.

LOCATION
We loved this was only a 5 minute walk to the plaza/downtown. We were also glad it wasn't located amid the hustle & bustle of the plaza. The property is spread out, which made it more relaxing.

ROOM
We loved our 2 room suite and that it was close to the spa. Spacious and comfortable.

SPA
Lived up to our expectations. We went multiple days.

Our next trip to Santa Fe will probably have us staying at La Posada again.
