Waikiki has tidal pools for kids and little ones. There are loads of activities available at the beach and the sand is white and clean.

Waikiki is always busy but it always safe because there is so many people around. The waves are small and the beach is usually calm and good for swimming

It's a gorgeous beach with everything you could ever want available to do: swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding, surfing, and kayaking. The city and state do great jobs keeping the beach clean and free of shenanigans to the best of their abilities. Most of the hotels have showers and footwash stations that are placed such that anyone can use them.

If you're staying in a Waikiki hotel, this is really easy. I recommend heading out early, before 8am, for the best experiences and first dibs on a spot for the day.

However, I'm giving it only 4 out of 5 because it gets REALLY CROWDED by lunchtime! Too crowded for my family's tastes. I'd argue that if you were daring enough, try hopping on a bus (Bus routes 55 and 52 go to the North Shore from the Ala Moana area -- search on TripAdvisor for tips and times) and check out one of the other dozens of state beach parks that are virtually empty, but still with all of the beauty of Waikiki.

If you are into beeches, Waikiki is a great one. It stretches for a long way, and many hotels are situated right on the beach If you really want to spend time on this beach, book a hotel that is right on it. There is an area that is protected by a jetty, and you can stay shallow or go out a bit deeper. This place is highly commercialized, so make sure that you are OK with commercialism if you head here. I didn't see crowded beaches, other than for a fireworks display. I think more people are busy shopping and touring.

Although it is one of the most famous beaches in Honolulu, skip it and go somewhere else if you really want to have a great beach experience. It is overcrowded and the water there is not necessarily the most beautiful on O'ahu, It's nice to go and say you have been, but that is it. Go somewhere else.
